Rust Coloured Kohls: Three of My Favourites

IMG_9800 IMG_9801 IMG_9788 IMG_9787

As the autumn launches come thick and fast there appears to be a few constant themes that link them all up together. Most contain some kind of sheer, but burgundy lip, a cool tone take on eyeshadow – there’s a khaki green shade in one of the new CHANEL Palettes that I’m getting kinda swoony over – and there’s influx of eyeliners. Don’t worry I’ll cobble together some kind of ‘Autumn Edit’ thang soon, but until then I thought I’d shine a spotlight on my favourite kohls from the shiny new collections. There’s a real nod to rusty, warm browns going on and if I’m fancying a horizontal swoop of liner then that’s the shade I’m always feeling, so this trend is right up my street. From drugstore to top dollar, here are my top three…

KIKO Colour Definition Eyeliner and Kajal in 02 – £5.90 – from KIKO Cosmetics. I’d say that out of the trio this one is the weakest in the staying power department, but hey – it’s also the cheapest by a mile. It’s still creamy, long-lasting and has just a few seconds of blend time before it sets into place. Colour-wise it’s like the more wearable version of the SUQQU (see below) in that it’s got a deep rich purple hue to it, but less of the red that accompanies the SUQQU. Still very pretty though and it’s a nice alternative to your typical coffee coloured browns.

Burberry Effortless Kohl Eyeliner in Antique Gold No.07 – £18.50 – from FeelUnique. I know I’ve been going on and on about my love for the Marc Jacobs Hi-Liner Eye Pencils, but I think that this formula from Burberry is the the UK-available dupe for those. They have a re-moulder nib on one end and a thin retractable stick of pigment on the other. It’s soft, ridiculously long-lasting and glides over the lid without the need for tugging. The colour is a pretty, brassy gold which isn’t the most rusty, is the most festive and I foresee myself getting a lot of wear out of this bad-boy.

SUQQU Gel Eyeliner Pencil in EX-01 Bordeaux – £20 – from Selfridges. This is probably the most unusual of three in that it’s like a deep red wine colour. A dark burgundy with a bit of warmth and a straight-up matte finish. It looks like it would terrifying to apply anywhere near the eye, but actually with a bit of blending and a tonne of mascara it gives a subtle nod to colour and pairs nicely with a pale eye (see above, where (hopefully!) I don’t look like I’m harbouring some kind of eye infection). The set-up comes with a little smudger on the end, but you literally have a matter of seconds to get things moving because this dries down FAST and does not move. No panda eyes/pink eye look going on here.
