New Years Eve, notably one of the most problematic to plan (and tipsy) nights of the year. Each time it rolls round I vow to produce blueprints before the actual day however it always gets to 6pm and I’m messaging my phonebook to rally some sort of NYE plan together. This year is different and a jaunt to a restaurant followed by a no doubt packed pub to see in the New Year and put my arm round strangers to sway and sing along to Auld Lang Syne is on the cards. To reach this decision, me and my mates had to knock two other scenarios off the scene – a girlie night in with the Sex In The City box set featuring Jools Holland intervals and a hardcore night on the tiles. Given that three plans were on the table I thought I’d cobble together not just one NYE look, but three – whatever your idea, hopefully I’ve got it covered makeup-wise, one less thing to plan, eh?
If you’re planning to toddle off to a restaurant tonight and ring in the new year with a dough stick in hand then I reckon a smokey eye with a nude lip that’s food-friendly is a bright idea. For a meat-sweat proof base give the Jemma Kidd Light as Air Foundation and Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Concealer* a go, followed by a dusting of Clarins Bronzing Duo* over cheeks to add a cut of contour. I’ve been experimenting in attempt to discover a simple smokey eye and I’ve found the Wild About Beauty Cream Eyeshadow in Buster* all over the lid with a feather of MAC Eyeshadow in Showstopper in the crease, paired with a smudge of Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Demolition* on the top and bottom lashlines with L’Oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara is a combo that even an eye makeup noob like myself can master. A slick of a naked nude lipstick like MAC’s Shy Girl and you’re ready for your feast.
A sleepover with the ladies in the pipeline? Yes it’s still acceptable in your 20’s; me and my two mates will be squeezing into a double after tonights shenanigans. Well it would be rude not to crack out a face mask or two while snuggling up to a Ryan Gosling marathon, non? Get proceedings rolling with Alpha H’s Gentle Daily Exfoliant*, a powder which melts into a grainy lotion when mixed with water that is smooth enough to slough away at even the most sensitive of complexions. Then it’s time for a mask as demonstrated, I like slathering on REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask for something quick, easy and darn right effective; follow with Origins Drink Up Intensive for super bouncy skin that will have your hungover mates even greener with envy on New Years Day. Inject some final touches of moisture with Alpha H Absolute Eye Complex* on those pesky circles, Dr Hauschka Lip Care Stick* on that pout and small blob of Philip Kingsley Elasticizer* through the ends of your hair to have your best looking NY morning on record.
For those hardcore enough to elbow their way onto the dancefloor and get down till way past my bedtime, I salute you – you are more of a woman than I. You need something sweat-proof, drinks-proof and maybe even tears-proof, so why not skip the heavy eyes and rock out a bold lip? Start with a strong face base foundation with Hourglass Viel Mineral Primer, followed by the flashback free and photo ready Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation and a dab of Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer under the eyes. Keep cheeks bare with just a small slick of Hourglass Illume Bronze Light Cream to Powder Duo to define and shine. Get a little catty with the eyes and add a flick of L’Oreal Super Liner Perfect Slim in Black* with a hell of a load of Guerlain Maxi Lash* to give a full-on flutter and attempt some lashes if you’ve got skills in that department – I’m severely lacking so gave them a miss. Give it a touch of neutral glitter, something like Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Furore would be a nice match, to ramp up the glamour if you fancy. Keep the brows in place, nobody wants a stray brow bopping along the dancefloor eh, with Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel, and then turn your attention onto lips. A product that’s a hassle and a half to apply but hangs around for ages is OCC Lip Tar in Psycho*, let’s just hope it lasts past your midnight kiss, cheeky.
Whatever your plans I hope this small snippet of inspiration finds you well and that you have a happy, merry and safe New Years. Just a little interjection here to say thank you for all your support in 2012. What a year it’s been and without getting all Gwennie on you, I really do appreciate all the comments, tweets, messages, mails and thumbs up. They make the all-enjoyable process of writing of this blog and creating videos that extra bit more rewarding, so thank you. Here’s to 2013. BRING.IT.ON…
