That’s 80% lip products…
With all these walks down makeup memory lane, I’ve completely forgotten about the handful of new items that have managed to push their way to the front of the queue and into my everyday makeup box. I definitely don’t try as many products as I used to because I’ve got pickier, I’m constantly tuning my quality filter so I know if an item has got the credentials I need for it to be HG status quicker and I just have found so many things that I love and repurchase, therefore ticking that category off the list for me. However, today I’m talking through the newbies; a few of which have made it into today’s video with is an über casual ‘Get Ready With Me’. Have a read and then click on the video below if you fancy some shopping recommendations and 20 minutes of procrastination. Go on, it’s time for a break (even if you did start work 20 minutes ago)…
Firstly, let’s talk CHANEL. That’s always a good place to start. I always love their autumn collections (who remembers the red-hued collection from last year?) and this year’s offering is no different. It’s not as ‘classically’ autumnal as previous releases from them, but it’s a mixed bag and there’s something for everyone; whether you want to bag yourself a bright red lipstick or a purple eyeshadow palette. Personally I’m all over the neutrals from the collection (obvs): the Ombre Premiére in Memory and the Rouge Coco Lipstick in Daylight. The eyeshadow texture feels like cream, but works like powder and gives off a shimmer-heavy bronze shade. I’ve been wearing it a load in the evenings with lashings of mascara when I want my eye makeup to have a bit more oomph to it, as it layers well over what I’m usually wearing. Kinda gross, but very true. The lipstick is a pale peach that on its own gives off an opaque mod-vibe; however I smoosh it in like I usually do for a subtle wash of warm-toned nude.
Now it wouldn’t be a beauty post from me without without some kind of nod to Glossier, right? I was lucky enough to have these items stuffed in my goodie bag from when I went to their event last month in London (vlog of that here) and they were all items that I’d chatted about with Emily when I had the chance to meet her. Do you love how I just threw that in? We’re on first name terms now in my head. She was saying how she mixes the Cloud Paint in Beam, with the Cloud Paint in Dusk to create her perfect pinched cheek shade. Yep, I can confirm that the tawniness of Dusk blends beautifully with the orange tones of Beam to form a colour that’s the epitome of ‘peachy pink’. She also mentioned how she prefers wearing Haloscope in Moonstone, which is their opalescent offering. I’ve found it to be much more noticeable on my skin compared to Quartz, so a ‘less is more’ approach is required here. It really gives a glow though and makes me look sweaty – in a good way – if there is a good way of looking sweaty?
Finally from Glossier we have their Balm Dot Com in Birthday Cake, which is their collaboration with the NYC Bakery ‘Milk Bar’. This had actually just released last time I went to NYC and I originally passed on it in the showroom. The USP here is that the balm is littered with tiny flecks of silver glitter and as historically glitter and I don’t really get on, I passed. However being the complete Emily Weiss fangirl that I am, when she mentioned how this was her favourite incarnation of Balm Dot Com and she was actually wearing it right in front of me (!!!), I ended up seeing the shimmer as a playful twist that made the lips look fuller and juicer and really just added a bit of fun to the whole thing. Oh yeah, and it smells like cake. I’ve surprised myself by wearing it most days since I got it.
Miscellaneous finds come in the form firstly of the Kiehl’s Butterstick Lip Treatment SPF 25 in Nude. You can never go too wrong with a lip balm, but this one caught my eye because the colour actually shows up on your lips – it’s sheer, but not too sheer – and there’s SPF 25 squeezed in there, which is something that I always forget to pile on during the summer months. Face yes, but my lips are left to frazzle which ain’t good.
Finally there’s the Real Techniques Powder Bleu Collection. Doesn’t it just sound so fancy? You know when you get a brush and you can’t stop stroking it on your face because it feels so soft and it’s kind comforting and you feel like a cat? Well that’s what these will make you do. Across the board they’re all great for diffusing powder on your face in a non-cakey way but I personally love the Soft Powder Brush for bronzer and all-over face powder and the Soft Shadow Brush because it blows out colour and works well with matte shadows that can sometimes be a bit stubborn on the lid. Here you go, have a watch of the video below if you want to see some of this lot in action…
