New-In and Loving

Over recent weeks I’ve been gathering quite the collection of new-in products that I’ve been meaning to share. They’re not at the stellar standard that would deem them worthy of a spot in a monthly favourites just yet, but they’re well worth a nod and who knows maybe they’re destined for best-of-the-month status? But for now here’s a speedy show-and-tell and mid-month check-in of debuting stock that has got the VDM seal of approval.

In makeup routine chronological order I’m going to get things started with a concealer that is getting the job done and getting it done real well – Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Stay-In-Place High Cover Concealer (FYI, I have the shade Extra Light). So here’s the deal. Firstly the coverage of this stuff is insane, one quick rub of my finger into the product and pat on the darkest part of my dark circles renders them practically gone. Here’s the good bit though. You know how some concealers do blemishes or bags? This one does both; granted it’s a tad dry in the under eye area but it’s nothing that a good dollop of eye cream pre-application can’t handle.

OK, let’s touch on that eyeshadow palette. It’s the Bobbi Brown Smokey Warm Eye Palette and it’s pretty drool-worthy, non? I stumbled across this while putting together my Christmas Gift Guide shenanigans (starting Sunday, your bank balances have been warned) and it would have been rude not to road test it. The offering is equally split between mattes and shimmers; making it a go-to palette for a subtle daytime smoke to an all-out glamour lid look. My favourite combo? The deep bronze with a touch of the matte mid-brown in the crease.

Do I need another eyelash curler? The definitive answer to that is no, but when I spotted the newly released Shu Uemura S Curler, designed by the undisputed queens of the curl, how could I ignore it? With a reformatted shape it works closer to the lashes, the smaller pad means that it suits all eye shapes and it can work solely in the outer corners for a more feline flutter. Yes, it takes a bit of getting used to and I’m still learning but I’ve managed not to slice half my eyelids off….yet. Result.

A new nude has entered the drawers at Chez VDM and it’s creamy, pink and pretty dreamy. It’s Charlotte Tilbury’s K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Penelope Pink; a brown-tinged nude that’s a little more pink that my ol’ fave MAC Lipstick in Patisserie – in fact you can see it in action on Tuesday and Wednesday in my ‘A Week in Eye Makeup’ post. The thing to me that makes this formula stand out is the lasting power. Nudes are notoriously fleeting in their appearance, but this takes a good two or three hours until touch-up is required. More shades are required ASAP.

It’s a rare occurrence for a perfume to be accepted into the ranks – I’m fiercely loyal to my favourites – though this month there have been a handful of additions, most notably Maison Martin Margiela’s Lazy Sunday Morning. If you’re not already enamoured by the branding, bottle or brilliantly labelled name then let me tell you it’s a joy to spritz on. There’s a mix of musk, lily and patchouli at the base, but there’s just something fresh laundry-ee about it. Luverly.

So there you have it. A look into the crystal ball of upcoming favourites? You’ll have to wait and see on that count.
