When a lovely reader sent me the link to the NARS Fairy’s Kiss Eyeshadow Palette online, it would have been rude not to buy out the stock with ‘ONLY TWO LEFT’ flashing up on the screen, right? So buy out I did and a few days later two palettes dropped onto my doorstep. Part of the Autumn 13 NARS collection and an almost instant sell-out, the Fairy’s Kiss offering is the cooler of the two released, packed with a purpley bunch of shades: (L-R, top to bottom)Â Manosque, Kalahari, Brousse, Tokyo, Brumes and Pandora to be exact. So I thought I’d cobble together an everyday hint of violet look with it, to prove that it doesn’t always have to be neutral. Oh and that extra one? Well that’s for one of you. Check out the video linked above for that.
Now this is a much cooler palette than the bronzey offerings I usually head towards, but I’ve come to the conclusion that a muted purple eye looks good on everyone. I’m not talking the high-glitter ‘to the brow’ looks I sported as a teenager, but a light lilac with a deeper violet in the crease, lashings of mascara and you’re done; so this palette was exactly what I’d been perusing for. It’s the same size as their previous And God Created the Woman palette (the fact my A.G.C.T.W palette has a same-size buddy makes me very excited) and the 1g pans don’t make it amazing value for money (£32 FYI), but it’s all about the edit, the selection. The colour pay-off is good on four of the six shadows, the darker two are a tad powdery. Though still being a slight shadow-phobe I’m ok with the lack of pigmentation in those.
Being that the palette is a little hard to stumble upon I’ve cobbled together some dupes. Manosque is a limited edition shade and not currently in the NARS full-time eyeshadow line-up (though the shade name has existed as a black nail polish before, just to confuse matters) and reminds me of a less shimmery Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow in Rosewood. Kalahari is available as a duo as is Tokyo and Brousse has a touch of MAC Satellite Dreams about it. Brumes is basically MAC Smut and Pandora, MAC Carbon.
But there’s still one on the market and it’s currently under lock and key in my posession. Just have a watch of the video above to see the deats of how to enter. It’s an easy one, I promise. Good luck.
