Being mid-preparation for this year’s round of Christmas Gift Guide videos (coming next week!) I’ve seen my fair share of festive launches ranging from the extravagant to the stocking filler appropriate, the glitz to the seriously glam, but nothing I’ve come across has made me get so heart eyed emoji than NARS’ all singing all dancing winter 2014 drop. There’s wow factor, value for money and palettes galore – what more can a gal want? There are two items in particular that have me questioning whether it’s completely acceptable to buy the same present for every women in my family for Christmas. Enter the Virtual Domination Cheek Palette and the Digital World Lip Pencil Coffret…
Let’s address the palette that you must have seen pop up in your social feeds somewhere first. Three cheek colours, one highlight and a bronzer, all with a combined worth of £117 (according to the Space NK website) for £45. The mirror in it is mega and the packaging is hefty but beautiful all at the same time – Mark, an avid purveyor of NARS, can’t stop picking it up and questioning whether the cover is glass or not – it’s just quality, you know? Packaging aside as always with NARS the powder colour formula doesn’t disappoint. The blushes are pigmented, never dusty and I’ve become rather fond of the limited edition Final Cut which has that whole pinky/peach/’not too much on the cheek’ thing down. My only niggle is that Miss Liberty, the highlighter of the palette, can come off a little glittery on the cheeks, but as an inner corner highlight it’s all kinds of awesome. A one-stop cheek colour shop this certainly is and it’s got kick-ass Christmas present written all over it.
Then there’s the Digital World Lip Pencil Coffret which is, if you can believe it, even better than the palette in my eyes. My love for the NARS chunky lip pencils is a well documented one and when there’s a set with five colours, two Velvet Mattes, three Satins in (two previously limited edition, two from the current range and one brand new one) this was always going to end up in my basket. Although there’s not the cute little pout embossed clutch that came with last years take on this lip quintet, I’d say that the colours are better and this time round all five will be used in my makeup frontline. Coming in at just under the price of two full-sized pencils, these miniatures which are actually just a smidge smaller than the originals again come housed in a stunning presentation case and I’m currently struggling to pick a favourite colour – though the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Iberico, which is similar to the colour Red Square but with an orange twist, is currently the front-runner.
NARS *claps, bows* how you gonna top this next year? I’m already excited…
