When I told Lily the other day that I have a pre-packed toiletry bag stashed under my bed in my weekend away suitcase she sighed and laughed. Typical Virgo behaviour, eh? It might be over-planning for some, but I find that it’s great to have a set of skin/hair/bodycare travel essentials all packaged and ready to go – the only thing I can’t fit in and note down to remember is deodorant. I restock after each trip so I know it’s all a’ok and this way I know that I’m never missing anything. Tweezers? In there already. Toothbrush? Toothpaste? Yep I got them too.
It’s a pretty compact roll-up bag that I pinched from the hotel that stayed in last New Years in New York, but I’m pretty sure that MUJI do something similar. It’s a tight squeeze to get it all in, but at least that way I need to be a bit cut throat in what makes it away with me and don’t end up with anything that’s unnecessary. There are three clear pockets that can be loosely broken down into categories and a little tie on the top so I can hang it handily on a hook in the bathroom of where we’re staying. Can I get the magnet clips to close? NAH. But that doesn’t matter, does it?
The top pocket contains ‘tools’. My Mini Wet Brush which may just be the cutest hairbrush ever (with some hairbands twisted round the bottom of course), a travel-size razor, a pair of tweezers and then a tiny Aromatherapy Associates Bath & Shower Oil that is a little bit of luxury in an otherwise essential products home. The centre pocket is more hair and body. There’s a bottle of shampoo, which actually has my Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo decanted into it, a mini dry shampoo, rollerball perfume, a toothbrush, toothpaste and a miniature bottle of Cool Fix to prevent any ingrown hairs after shaving. Nice. I don’t bother with shower gel as there’s always some to use wherever we’re staying.
In the bottom pocket is where I pop all my skincare bits (I carry around a separate pouch with a flannel, cotton buds and cotton pads in). I’ve decanted out some of the Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover and Una Brennan Superfacialist Vitamin C Skin Renew Cleansing Oil. Then there’s a facial mist, a tiny pot of a face mask, a moisturiser, some all-purpose oil and a travel-size Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair which doubles up as my moisturiser on days where I’m feeling greasy and my targeted spot treatment.
Right, time to pack up because we’re off for the weekend (posts and videos will continue as normal – you know me). Enjoy the long weekend all!
