…because it’s been a while.
I was searching for a photo on my blog and realised that it had been a while since I did a round-up of my best investment buys (this post from 2020 serves as my last instalment and I very much stand-by all the points made!). But thanks to the Whering App I now have a definitive, evidence-based list of what have actually been the best investment buys in my wardrobe, given that I can view my wardrobe from my most-worn item, to my least-worn. So here you have it. The 10 purchases that have served me best in my wardrobe (since I started tracking it in August last year)…
#1 – Loewe Small Puzzle Bag in Midnight Navy*. I feel like it’s no surprise that this is at the top. It’s the bag that holds all my bag bits and goes with everything, therefore is the one I grab when I’m running out the door. If you’d like a full review of this bag then check out this TikTok, where I manage to cut down a dissertation-length ode into a handy two minutes. Six years later and we’re still going strong.
#2 – Vintage Levi’s 501 Jeans. Now these were a great buy. Notoriously hard to get hold of, I somehow managed to find my perfect pair that were just the right amount of baggy and just the right length. A slightly lighter wash denim than the rest of my jeans, they are just so darn comfy and therefore are the ones I go for when I’m having a chill day but want to be able to roll around on the floor with the little guy.
#3 – ARKET Shawl Collar Jacket*. Of all the jackets I own – this is the most practical. A medium-weight puffer, I can easily throw it on with most outfits and it keeps me warm, whilst looking pretty darn chic. It’s not too thick so I have to layer up underneath in the depths of the winter, but it’s served me very well for this long ol’ cold snap we’ve had.
#4 – Converse Comfort 70’s Trainers*. Are you noticing a pattern here? My most-worn pieces are the easiest, comfiest ones I own. Case in point – these trainers. Not only are they pretty park-proof, hence being worn so often; this style is soooo comfortable. A cushioned sole makes them 11789% more comfortable than the originals.
#5 – Birkenstock Boston Clogs in Latte Cream*. Another super comfortable, flat shoe option that I reach for all the time. In suede, so not one for rainy muddy days outside (and annoyingly in a shade that never come back into stock!), but the creamy yellow goes with so many things in my wardrobe. When in doubt – and when I want to look a little more chic and polished – I go for these.
#6 – ARKET Straight Non-Stretch Jeans*. I was previously all about that straight leg life when it came to denim, but right now I prefer my leg a little longer and a touch wider and these jeans fit that bill. I wear them about two sizes bigger than my usual size so they sit a little more on the waist.
#7 – ARKET Oversized Cashmere Jumper in Grey*. They sadly haven’t bought back this style this winter, but I just love this jumper so much. It’s *perfectly* oversized and it’s just the right shade of grey – that feels like an odd thing to say but do you know what I mean?
#8 – Birkenstock EVA Sandals*. It’s been a while since I wore these sandals, but I’m guessing they have made it onto the top 10 list thanks to being heavily in rotation last August and September. During the warmer months these are often the shoe that I go for – super comfy and I’m always here for a slip-on.
#9 – Celine Zipped Medium Hobo Bag*. I got this as a bit of a push-present for myself and I’m so glad I did. During those newborn days it was roomy enough to fit all the essentials in and now it’s the bag I go to whenever I need to carry a large load. Heck – I even packed for an overnight stay in London with just this bag. I’m very happy to have found my perfect black leather tote (with gold hardware – WIN!).
#10 – Lululemon HR 25 Align Pants*. I’m surprised these aren’t further up the list, but my go-to outfit for Mum days is these, with the ARKET jumper, ARKET jacket and my Converse. They are just THE BEST leggings and I won’t stop going on about it. They last years (I must have had mine for over five years now), and work just as good for casual lounging as they do for working out.
