Guys – big announcement. I think I’m over the matte lip trend. I know, I know. That’s not to say that I still don’t look at ridiculously matte lip looks on Instagram and think that it looks so good, or eye up the HUDA Beauty Liquid Mattes on Cult Beauty – because I still do both of those things – but I feel like on me personally, my lips have had enough. They crave moisture, sheer colour and a texture that doesn’t resemble that of a raisin for once.
Now I’ve been feeling this way for quite a while. The last matte lip I had a little moment with was the Jouer Long-Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick in Lychee, which is still one of my favourites but as the summer rolled in my makeup tastes leant to more melty formulas and a low-maintenance vibe that meant that I didn’t have to check up on my liquid lip every half an hour to make sure I didn’t have that ‘cat’s arse; disappeared from the centre of your lips’ thing going on. Lovely.
There are five of these melty, no-lipstick, lipsticks that I’ve been enjoying in the past month or so and all can be thrown on like a balm, sans mirror and wear off in a way that doesn’t require any touching-up. In particular, the YSL Rouge Volupté Shines have really caught my eye. The original Rouge Voluptés will always have a special place in my heart as they were first luxury lipstick formula range that I ever purchased from, but the Shines still pack a punch with the colour, but with a glossier feel to the finish. It’s 41 that I’m applying in the close-up picture above. A PINK! Madness, eh? But actually I quite like a watermelon shade when it’s patted down into the lips a little. Two of my other favourites from the line-up are 16, which is more of a muted coral and 47, which is a crowd-pleasing mauve; if you’re not sure where to start give 47 a swatch and you’ll most likely end up in love.
Two new releases that have made it to ‘swimming around in the bottom of my bag and swiped on my lips on the tube in a hurry’ status are the Clarins Joli Baume and the CHANEL Rouge Allure Lipstick in 168 Rouge Ingenue. The Clarins is one of those PH-adjusting, personalised pink balms – you know the ones. It’s not the most life-changing product ever, but it smells like those fizzy peach sweets and it’s encased in some seriously aesthetically pleasing packaging if that’s your bag. The new CHANEL shade, which is part of their autumn launch, is the nudest lipstick that I’ve worn in a long time and is something quite special. It’s actually paler than my lips which is something that I’ve steered clear from for a long while, but there’s something about the peachy tone that makes it work and the formula is deliciously creamy. I’d say this isn’t one of those universally flattering shades, so it’s probably worth making a visit to counter before you purchase; because what’s a MAC Patisserie on some, is a MAC Myth on others. Ahhh MAC Myth – memories…
