My Skincare Routine: The Extras

IMG_8320

When it comes to skincare, sure – I’ve got my morning and evening staples down but complexions can be unpredictable things and I like to have a product on standby for all situations. The spotlight on my skincare stash continues today and this time say hello to the extras. The items that may not be utilised on a daily basis, but come into play in times of extreme whether, texture or pore unrest.

SPF: Being that I’m a semi-hermit living in the UK and we’re now entering the depths of AW14 where the sun sets at about 4pm I’m not currently slapping on SPF 50 everyday but instead relying on my makeup base to provide protection for the few minutes that I find myself in the daylight between tube journeys. But if ever I’m away in a warmer climate, the sun decides to make a much welcomed reappearance or if I’m having a whole day out in the fresh air then I’ll slap some on and it’s always a toss-up between the Zelens Daily Defence Sunscreen SPF30 or La Roche Posay’s Anthelios XL Fluid SPF 50. Love ’em both.

MASKS: In my bathroom drawers I always have at least two masks on hand: an exfoliating option and a blemish-busting one. More often than not there’s actually about nine in there and I struggle to close the drawer. But in the nature of trying to sound streamlined and organised I’ll just chat through my most used. The Oskia Renaissance Mask is like peachy, glowy, just polished skin in a tub. Pricey, but well worth the investment if you ask me. However on days where my skin has the texture of a Nobbly Bobbly and blemishes galore it’s all about the Una Brennan Facialist Pore Purifying Clay Mask.

EXFOLIATORS: I like my exfoliators fast, gentle and without the ability to turn my face into one big beetroot. Chemical, AHA-based formulas fit that bill and the speediest of them all comes in the form of REN’s Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial. One minute. It really doesn’t get faster than that. It may seem a bit too speedy, but I find one application of this leaves things noticeably smoother and products layer up easier afterwards.

OILS: If there’s one oil that I always come to it’s the MV Organics Rose Plus Booster. Packed with high-quality essential oils that I find dull down my redness and amp up my inner glow, there’s no greasy residue left behind and it’s so light that I can even throw it on in the mornings under makeup and that’s basically unheard of in the world of facial oils. The Oskia Restoration Oil is a good’un too, with just a little more slip to it.

So that’s AM and extras covered; just the PM routine to-go and that will be served up here very shortly…
