VDM meet Megan, my little sister. Megan meet VDM. I thought it was about time for some fresh meat round these parts, plus I was getting nosey to have a twitch into others makeup bags, so I thought why not collar Megan into an appearance. She thought she was being roped into a quick chat but soon got hauled into an hour-long conversation on all things beauty with me scribbing down her musings and snapping away on my camera. The things we do for family, eh? My sister falls into the ‘normal’ category when it comes to makeup obsession levels, she’s not a deemed a special case like myself. Her beauty arsenal fits comfortably into one drawer, her daily picks are housed in a reasonably sized bag and she has important things in life like a car and clothes whereas I have a brimming MUJI tower. So here’s her beauty take including her lipbalm collecting tendencies, tips for fellow pale skinned gals and her new candle making mission…
“On a day to day basis I don’t wear a lot of makeup but I always wear mascara – my lashes are see-through without it. I’m currently using No7’s Extravagant Volume, but my all-time favourite is Clinique’s High Impact, I must pick up a new one of that. My daily face starts with the This Works Perfect Look Skin Miracle, sometimes I leave it at that as I’m ceebs with foundation, but if I do fancy more coverage then I stipple on YSL’s Le Teint Touche Eclat in BR10 – a good pick for pale ladies. Then for concealer I like Maybelline’s Fit Me Concealer in 15 and I set it all with MAC’s Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Medium which adds a bit of colour to my cheeks – I think I’m on my 3rd compact of the stuff! At one point I became a little obsessed with Benefit’s boxed powders – I wanted them all – but now I just use Hoola all over the cheeks and Coralista on the apples. I don’t wear it everyday but if I’m going out I like to apply a little eyeshadow combo from my MAC palette, which took me ages to fill; All That Glitters all over the lid, standard and either a bit of Patina, Woodwinked or Satin Taupe in the crease. Although I’m not the best at cleaning my brushes, so it’s probably a mix of all of them that goes on.
I never do brows or eyeliner, but I do do a bold lip on a night out – MAC Crosswires is good for a red option that isn’t too in your face, or I love Impassioned too. What’s my favourite lipbalm? Anna I can’t believe you asked me this, come on, Cherry Carmex. I’m Carmex obssesed – I even purchased the mint one on eBay before it was released in the UK, I’m a lipbalm hoarder. Brush-wise I stick with MAC brushes, with a few Real Techniques and Eco-Tools one thrown in; I love the No7 Blend & Contour Brush too, I have a few of those hanging around. My big thing at the moment is candles (see it runs in the family!), I love Yankee Candles and have a bit of a love affair with the Lemon & Lavender scent. I’m always burning it. But I just found this site where you can buy all the ingredients to make your own candles which melt into massage oils, so I’m going to give that a go. All you need is some wick, jars, shea butter, sweet almond oil, soy wax and essential oils – I think I’m going to try the sweet orange oil scent first. Anna’s already put her order in for a peppermint one.”
Yes, yes I have – I’m front of the line for when her first batch is ready and I’ll report back with the results. Could I be waving goodbye to Diptyque and hello to Megan’s very own kitchen-made cocotion, we’ll see. Cheers sis.
