My Quickie Glowing Skin Kit

You know you have those days where whatever you put on your face you feel like it looks like poop? Yeah those. I had one of them recently when I did an event up in London. I knew that my makeup needed to last a pretty long time and it was blowing a gale outside – it was time to bring out the big guns. For me I always assume that a tonne of powder is what I need and even though I don’t dust much on day to day I always end up cracking out a load for events, look in the mirror a few hours later and am greeted by some major cake-face. Hello! The thing with cake-face is that once it has set-in, it’s impossible to get rid of without just taking your makeup off and starting again or the aid of a dewy setting spray. With neither option available I sat on the tube trying to blend it in with an odd napkin that I had in my bag. Needless to say it didn’t work and I spent the rest of the afternoon praying that the lighting was bad and no one would notice.

From that day forward I decided to stand-down any mattifying powders I had and to embrace the glow. After all, it’s easier to dampen down a bit of sheen that’s turned to grease, than it is to bring some lustre back to a flat complexion, right? That’s what napkins are for. So right now this is my dewy-skin routine that I’m deploying whether I need my makeup to last a couple of hours or a mega long shift…

I love a good facial oil and happily slather some on every night, but these days I like a dose in the morning too. You know I love the MV Organics Rose Plus Booster, but I’ve also been using the KYPRIS Beauty Elixir I which is the most ridiculously expensive skincare  product I’ve ever used that’s also ridiculously (and annoyingly) good. Any old oil that you like will do as it just adds a bit of juice to your cheeks and means that it’s practically impossible for whatever you apply on top to get cakey.

The second step is a good natural looking, half-decent coverage foundation and to fit that bill I always turn to CHANEL’s Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation. Isn’t this just a great all-rounder? In fact I would say it’s overtaken Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation as my favourite formula EVER. Woah – bold claim there. It glides onto the skin so beautifully that my skin just looks like the best version of itself with redness dulled down and glow amped up.

Finally – let’s talk highlighter. I’ve had a real moment with highlighters over the past few months but I think I have settled on a favourite, BECCA’s Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone. It’s the perfect highlight for my complexion because it’s pretty pale and almost opal-toned. It just lies on the cheekbones with the prettiest sheen and doesn’t make it look like I’m actually wearing anything there. It’s HG status people. HG!

Obviously with quite a lot of oil and sheen going on and not a lot of powder, things can have the tendency to migrate here and there over the day. Though all I pack in my bag now is a BeautyBlender for smudging everything back into place. Perfect. No need for a napkin here.
