My Palette Stash: What’s Left?

If I still owned every single palette that I’ve accumulated throughout the years I could probably build a small fort out of them and live in there. They’re just so alluring aren’t they? All pretty looking and compact, ‘perfect for travel’ – that old chestnut – and each time I see a good-looking palette I think that it could be ‘the one‘. I’m a self-confessed palette floozy and so this category has most definitely been the one to see the most ruthless cut. The remains can be split down the middle with eyeshadows on one side and face palettes on the other. Let’s talk face first…

I’ve tried a fair amount of contour palettes, but the one that I use the most and love the most is the Kat Von D Shade & Light Palette. The powders are the creamiest and the most blendable and out of all the colours I find uses for them all, either as eyeshadows or sculptors. The second palette is not one I use often, or one that I think I’ve shown you before but a year or so I go I took the plunge and purchased the Bobbi Brown BBU Palette (which seems to have increased in price a fair bit since I purchased it I think!). I’m asked every now and again to do makeup for friends and family and thought that with this in hand I’d at least have a concealer and foundation for everyone. A pricey purchase, but one that I like to have in the sidelines, just in case.

I’d struggle to pick a favourite eyeshadow palette, but one of the originals and still one of the best in my eyes is the Urban Decay Naked Palette. The debut one has always been my favourite and years after purchasing I still use it today for its mix of warm-toned mattes and shimmers. If it’s just mattes you’re after then I’d point you in the right direction of the Viseart Eyeshadow Palette in Natural Matte which features some of the best glimmer-free formulas out there; all creamy and blendable with no bunching or dragging of the colour. A great one to travel with for the simple fact that it contains eight matte colours and eight shimmery colours in the smallest and slimmest amount of packaging is the LORAC Pro Palette. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for this one.

A more recent find brand-wise when it comes to eyeshadow is ZOEVA and the following two palettes are the two main catalysts for my eyeshadow clear-out for the fact that they contained so many dupes of other colours that I already owned and in a far superior formula. The Cocoa Blend Palette is one of the most drool-worthy colour combinations I’ve seen. Deliciously warm and beautifully smooth in texture. The Nude Spectrum Palette is a tad lighter in its colour selection, but still very warm and out of the 15 shades available, 5 are matte so there are some nice crease blenders in there, and the rest have some sheen which makes them a nice choice for all over the lid. If you’re looking to get your palette game down, then ZOEVA is definitely one to check out.
