Yesterday I attended the first wedding of the year that we had in our calendar. I do love a good wedding and sit there embarrassingly blubbing loudly regardless of my relation to the bride or groom. When my sister gets married later in the year I’m going to need a whole box of kleenex. I get it from my Mum; anything wedding related – Don’t Tell The Bride, Four Weddings, those VT’s where someone proposes at the end of the London Marathon every year – we just sit there sniffing with our voices breaking while trying to say ‘Isn’t it lovely?’. Anyways enough of my emotional instability and onto my one niggle when it comes to weddings. I never quite know what to wear.
Black dresses are out of the question, as are white ones which would naturally be my second choice and let’s backtrack – a dress!? For a jeans and T-shirt gal who wears mostly monochrome, weddings are a bit of a tough one. But this time round I think I cracked it. A navy and pink lightweight body-con dress, with a zip up a back and sheer long-sleeve inserts; light enough to wear bare legged for a summer wedding, but covering enough to keep warm with tights during a winter wedding – perfect. It’s the Whistles Abstract Tree Print Dress and I’m very happy with my purchase. The size 10 fits like a glove with just a bit of extra room around the breast area, but it’s nothing that a good padded bra can’t fix #SmallBoobProblems. The fact that I got it when Grazia were doing their 25% deal made it even sweeter. I’ll be rocking this for all romantic occasions for the rest of the year, come rain or shine.
While we’re on the subject of weddings, I thought I’d throw in a little FOTD too. There’s nothing particularly special here, but it’s a good long-wearing makeup menu that stayed in place and looked good in photography without looking horrifying in real life. My base was taken care of by my trusty trio of Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk in 4, Estee Lauder’s Stay-In-Place Doublewear Concealer in Extra Light and Bourjois’ Healthy Balance Powder in Vanilla. I added a bit of somethin’ somethin’ to the cheeks with the help of the Anastasia Contour Kit by using Fawn to sculpt out some kind of cheekbone and then using MAC Blush in Ripe Peach on the apples (RIPE PEACH IS MINE! The excitement is real, but more on that another day). After taming my brows with the Burberry Effortless Eyebrow Definer in Sepia and priming my lids with the NARS Pro-Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base, I used Giorgio Armani’s Eye Tint in 9 all over using a MAC 217 Brush – I love these things, they don’t move at all – and finished off with the Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara and a slick of CHANEL’s Rouge Coco Lipstick in Adrienne on the lips.
Let’s just say that the waterproof properties of the Fairydrops Mascara were tested. Blub.
