I don’t do ‘heavy’ eye-makeup that often, you guys know I am a neutral girl at heart. But ever since I received the new Illamasqua Neutral Palette*, I’ve been dying to have a play around with it and create an evening smokey eye look. Now I’m not gonna lie to you ladies as I didn’t actually wear this look out; the highlight of my evenings this week has been being bathed and hair-washed by 8pm and rolling into bed! But next time I have a night out on the tiles, I know I’ll be rocking this look!
For the rest of the makeup I kept it simple with my Jemma Kidd Light As Air Foundation in 3, By Terry Touche Veloutee Concealer in Beige, NARS Madly on the cheeks and then my new favourite lipstick – Shu Uemura’s Rouge Unlimited in BG922 on my lips. For the eyes I used all the shadows from the Illamasqua Neutral Palette. Firstly, I dusted the matte creamy white shade Stealth all over my eyes up to my brows to give a nice neutral base with a MAC 224 brush. Then I used my favourite shade from the palette, the golden shimmering bronze Vintage, which is exclusive to this palette, all over the lids and brought it quite thickly under the eye too. I gave this a blend around the edges with a MAC 217 brush. This shade is seriously gorgeous, think MAC Woodwinked, but without the orange undertone. For the crease colour I picked Wolf, a matte chocolate brown, which I blended into the crease with a MAC 224 brush. Then finally for the outer corners, I popped a little bit of Obsidian, a brand new rich black shade with a Real Techniques Detailer Brush and blended that out with a MAC 224 again. To finish off the eyes I threw on a fair few coats of my favourite L’oreal Telescopic Waterproof Mascara and tightlined my eyes with the Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Whiskey.
That’s rather a lot of products for me, especially eye-makeup-wise, but I really like the outcome. I especially liked how the shadow under the eyes looked, I think this is something I will try and always do with eyeshadow looks from now on. The shadows from the Illamasqua Neutral Palette really impressed me, especially the shade Vintage. All of them together create the perfect go-to smokey eye, but I think the shade Vintage with a touch of Wolf in the crease would be great for a quicker option or just Stealth with Wolf for a more daytime look. I guess I’m trying to say it’s a very versatile palette! The only shade that wasn’t too fab was Obsidian in my option, if you are looking for an extreme dark, dark black this isn’t really it – I found it to have quite a powdering consistency, whereas the others were much more creamy and easy to blend.
