My Makeup: Fashion Week Mash-Up

As promised yesterday, here are my favourite beauty bits from all the Fashion Weeks thrown on my face – mash-up style. Different aesthetics? Who cares? A trend on trial if you will. It all went on and the results weren’t too horrendous. Here are the deets:

For hair I dug the undone glam gritted curls at Topshop Unique. Now despite a bulging hair tool drawer I don’t actually own a curling tong, so I had to make do with some straightener included curls. For that ‘second day’ hair texture I added a blob of Oribe’s Surfcomber Tousled Texture Mousse throughout. The results? Well, I wasn’t too crazy about it. The curls weren’t curly enough *adds curling tong to shopping list* and the Oribe Mousse just made the whole thing greasy. An Oribe product I don’t like? Am I feeling ok?

Another element that didn’t really hit the mark for me was the nails which I’d lifted from the Burberry runway. Their Nail Polish in Pale Yellow* (out in January 2014 FYI), looked amazing on Cara but against my skintone it just looked a little off – too mustardy. It was my first foray into yellow tips so I think next time I’d plump for something even more pastel. The shade Dusky Mauve* though (third from left in the picture) – well that’s a whole different story…

Lastly let’s address the makeup. My take on Alexandra Wang’s NARS directed look. The brief was simple: concealer, groomed brows, curled lashes and a swipe of lip balm. So I did exactly that using NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla (the same one used for the show) and Diego Dalla Palma’s Rich Lip Balm. The outcome I liked and is one I’d give a go again for ‘no makeup, makeup’ days. The concealer gives just the right amount of coverage to ward off bad skin days and the lip balm dosed the lips with a nice level of gloss. Wang – you hit the beauty spot.

And no I’m not sure if I’ll ever stop harping on about that NARS Concealer, it’s just too darn good. But yellow nails? I think I may have to pass on that one…
