My MAC Quad: Four Colours That Rock

IMG_1455MAC Quad

My MAC eyeshadow story began many moons ago with the purchase of the shade All That Glitters. To this day it still remains one of my favourite eyeshadows and is one of the colours that I probably get complimented on the most when I wear it – fun fact, eh? In the past seven years though I’ve from extremes when it comes to MAC shadows. One minute I want every single colour and the next I’m purging my stash and passing on full pans of colour that I’ve never even used once to friends and family. I mentioned in ‘My Eyeshadow Stash – What’s Left?’ post that after having a swatch-a-thon with my ZOEVA Palettes I realised that a lot of my eyeshadow singles were redudant dupes, so streamlined them down and now just four remain. Wanna see?

I’ll talk you through the most obvious keeper first – All That Glitters. Although I don’t wear it as often as some of the other colours in this quad, it will always have a special place in my heart. I mean – just look at that dent! It’s a shimmery warm peach that works nicely over the lid on its own, especially in the summer, or pairs well with a matte brown in the crease for some extra dimension. The latter is my go-to look for big occasions and if I remember rightly it’s the eye look I wore on my graduation.

To the right of All That Glitters is Sable. Now when everyone was going nuts over Satin Taupe (a colour I’ve never really got on with), I was having a moment with Sable, which to me is the perfect taupe shade. It’s a little red, a little warm, a little rusty and I just find this one so darn flattering. Again there’s a metallic sheen to it, but it’s nothing too O.T.T, making this a good one to wear daily. I find myself reaching for this colour whenever I’m doing something pretty nude on the lips.

Bottom left in my MAC quad is Soba which is a colour that definitely doesn’t get enough love. In the pan it looks like a strange mix of baby sick/poop so I can see why it might not call out to people on counter, but on the lids it’s a mid-tone camel brown that’s a hard one to pin down exactly. A bit orange, a bit yellow and there’s a fine golden shimmer running through it that only becomes apparent when you get real close to it. It’s one that I had to keep because it’s so unique; there’s nothing else in my collection quite like it.

Next to Soba is Antiqued, which only just made the cut because I do have a few other colours similar in my collection, but Antiqued has more of an orange flavour to it than other dupes so it’s stayed in my stash. You know I love a good orange tone. I just love how this looks smudged all over the lid and under the eyes with a shedload of mascara. It’s my original ‘Please can I look like an Olsen twin today?‘ shadow.
