I promise you that I really, really tried my best to pack light for my trip to California. PAH! And although I think I kinda managed it when it came to toiletries and makeup, clothing and techy bits were most definitely a different story, but what I lack in cosmetics now, I’ll be making up for when it comes to my Sephora haul occupying most of my suitcase space on the way home. My bad. I’ve been desperate to use the new things that I’ve picked up, but with the weather being insanely hot I’ve stuck to my tried and tested beauty badboys that I know stay where you put ’em. At least for a couple of hours. It would be dissertation length if I spoke though absolutely everything, so I’ll keep it to the long-lasting highlights of my current makeup bag…
Base-wise I’ve gone for the Estée Lauder Perfectionist Youth-Infusing Makeup in 1W2 because it’s just the right balance of being high-coverage, long-lasting, yet still pretty hydrating at the same time. Plus, the shade is perfect for me right now – usually it’s a bit ‘optimistic’ when I’m back in the U.K. My most hardy concealer is the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Concealer in Light 18 and trust me – a little goes a long way with this stuff. To set that all down I’ve been reaching for the MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Light Plus – obviously – which dulls down excess sweat (nice!), but still keeps a healthy dose of shine to the skin, in a good way. I haven’t needed much on the cheeks because I’ve been so darn hot, so instead I’ve just been popping a bit of the new Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder in Elvis Duran over the tops of my cheeks, forehead, nose and neck to join everything up.
On the eyes I bizarrely find that creams and sticks stay around the longest because they set down and the CHANEL Stylo Eyeshadow in Brun Chatain is a pretty taupe that acts nicely as a base for other colours or just on its own smudged around the lash lines. I’ve found that even my most hardy, waterproof mascaras melt in this heat so it’s just a case of checking in a mirror every now and again to make sure you don’t look like Gene Simmons. I actually really like the LashFood Conditioning Drama Mascara (though there are a shedload that I’m enjoying right now – I’m a mascara floozy) because it’s quite natural looking and leaves my lashes looking nice and fluffy. On the lips I’ve mostly been leaving them bare and popping a bit of balm on them, but if I’ve gone for colour then I’m still in love with the Jouer Long-Wear Lip Creme Liquid Lipsticks and Melon is my jam right now. It looks a bit light when you first apply it, but it dries down to dusky pink that Kylie Jenner would be proud of (Lily you need this!).
Of course I finish all of that off with the Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray because even though we haven’t been staying up all night, there have been some pretty late bedtimes thrown in there. Grannie no more, eh?
