Right now I seem to be at a place where I’m wearing makeup more often, but less of it. With a tiny amount of L.A tan still clinging on (who am I kidding? It’s the Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanning Lotion) and my lash lift still going strong I just don’t really feel the need to throw on that much slap, unless I’m filming; in which case I pile it on so I don’t look like an egg under my studio lights. So it’s a tale of two halves really; wearing just the bare essentials day-to-day and then going mad for it the one or two days a week that I film. So here’s how my current makeup bag situation shapes up…
Now I have no idea why I feel the need to have four foundations in my daily grab pile, but right now I get the most use out of the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream, mixing the two shades Fair and Light depending on when my last application of the Clarins was. On my ‘no makeup, makeup’ days I sometimes reach for the YSL Touche Eclat Le Teint in B10 which is a fab medium coverage number that really brings the glow, not longevity as much, but it has a lovely natural finish, then there’s the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 4 which has HG filming face status. Concealer-wise I’m still on the Estée Lauder Doublewear Stay-In-Place Concealer in Extra Light train and I’ve got the YSL Touche Elcat Neutraliser in Green on hand incase of I’m having a day where my face resembles a tomato. Even though I use a facial spritz at the end of my makeup, I thought I’d mention it as part of the complexion paragraph – so the Clarins Fix’ Make-Up is really rather lovely. It’s the finest mist, so you have to make sure you get real up close and personal with it, but I find that it sets my makeup in a dewy and invisible way.
On my face I’ve been skipping the powder (though I end up watching my videos back and thinking – WHY!?!) and going straight in with the Make Up For Ever Pro Bronze Fusion in M20, dusting a little of the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone on all my highlight-spots. For my contour I’ve been using the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder in Light – you see that? They do it in three shades now. WHOOP! I’ve also been playing with some new liquid contour and highlight items from Kevyn, but they’re still in lab-form – MAD! – so I’ll report back when I have the real thing in the proper packaging, but so far, so good.
I prime my lids with the Urban Decay Primer Potion, then if I want something quick I use the Clarins Waterproof Eyeshadow in Golden Sands or if I want something a little smokier, the L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Bronzed Taupe. From my extremely jet-lagged week I’ve got the MAC Chromographic Pencil in NC15-NW20 in there to neutralise my tired eyes and for mascara I bizarrely have three to choose from. Despite the fact that I no longer have to wear waterproof mascara, I keep reaching for them because they’re just so darn hardy. My current favourites are the L’Oreal Shocking Extensions Waterproof Mascara and the Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara. I’ve been giving the YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils Mascara a go, but I end up looking like a panda after 10 minutes of wear. Brows are being sorted by the Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Brow Pencil in Grey and NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in Brunette, obviously.
My lip stash is pretty stripped back at the moment. Daily I tend to reach for the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in 7, mainly for its hydrating qualities. I’ve got a liquid lipstick in there incase I’m feeling a matte lip moment – the Jouer Lip Creme Liquid Lipstick in Lychee. Though when I’m filming I tend to make a little mix of the CHANEL Rouge Coco Lipstick in Adrienne and Clinique Lip Pop Lipstick in Melon Pop on my lips, which creates a custom coral/nude colour that hopefully adds a bit of colour to my egghead.
