My Autumn Capsule Wardrobe Wishlist

IT’S CAPSULE WARDROBE TIME AGAIN! September marks the beginning of my autumn capsule wardrobe and although I haven’t really started the shift yet as I’m here, there and everywhere until mid-September I’m already thinking about the empty categories that will add some versatility into my closet and need filling before the cooler weather makes an appearance. If you scroll down the bottom of today’s post you’ll spot a video on how I go about working out what makes it onto my shopping list, but the main tool is an ongoing list that I keep in my bullet journal. At the end of every season I write down what my most worn pieces were and what items I feel are still lacking. This means by the time I’m revisiting it a year later I can remember what should be top of my to-buys. Did I ever mention that I’m a Virgo? So with a glance at last year’s list and my current Instagram saved section, here’s what’s made it on my autumn capsule wardrobe wishlist so far…

I’ve ticked off most of the items that were on my ‘to-buy’ list from last autumn with things that I purchased for my winter, spring and summer capsules but black high-heeled boots still remain a category that isn’t currently catered for in my wardrobe. What a basic to be missing, eh? I’m a right fuss pot when it comes to boots and usually like my styles to be pointy or almond-toed which make me look like Noel Fielding’s twin, but I have to say that the Dear Francis Spirit Boots are bringing me round to the idea of a more rounded toe. The heel height seems high, but manageable and I like the sock-boot style as they’ll keep my ankles warm when I wear my more cropped denim. I’m 95% sure that I’ll be making a purchase of these v.soon…

Last year I purchased a pair of black wide-leg trousers from Mango. They were great and I actually got a decent amount of wear out them, donning them for evenings out mostly – I even wore them on my hen do! But the fit of them just wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. Being that fancy black trousers were a new addition to my wardrobe I think it’s nice to go in with something from the high-street so you can prove whether they’ll be a worthwhile investment later down the line. The Joseph Rocker Super 100 Wool Wide-Leg Pants seem to be exactly what I’m looking for. They’ve still got a bit of a school-trouser vibe about them, but they’re much less tight around the backside and have a wide leg fit that starts right under the bum. I love how they’re styled on Net-a-Porter with the cream roll-neck tucked into them. SOLD.

I’ve come to accept that I’m just not really a heels gal (aside from a pair of boots that I can actually walk in, as I mentioned earlier). Over the summer I’ve gravitated towards the flats in my shoe collection; either wearing my Topshop Leopard Print Slides of my Gucci Horsebit Detailed Leather Loafers. Given that slides won’t be an option for much longer, I’m looking to expand the loafer category of my wardrobe, so if anyone has any recommendations then I’m all ears. Do I go for another colour of the Gucci loafers? The red ones make my eyes light up when I see them online. Or do I find a similar style and go all out with a leopard print number? Or both? LOLZ.

The main reason why I love cooler weather dressing is because you can wear a top that is basically a blanket and it’s completely socially acceptable. What I’m talking about here is what I’m wearing in this post, which is a brand-spanking new purchase, so it’s already bypassed the wishlist stage. It’s the Acne Studios Deborah Oversized Ribbed Wool Sweater and it wasn’t exactly the cheapest purchase I’ve ever made, but it’s one that I’ve been lusting over since I screen-grabbed a picture of it from Instagram last year. I don’t think a snugglier jumper exists. I may have sweated my bollocks off taking pictures in it during a hot August day, but I think the warmth will be much appreciated over winter. If anyone has any wallet-friendly dupes I’m interested because I reckon another one or two of this style in my wardrobe will help to beef out my knitwear category.

I loved these white cropped jeans that I’m wearing this post for the first part of the warm weather wave, however as the summer went on I became more obsessed with high-waisted, straight-leg fit denim with raw edges and these no longer fitted the bill. The latter’s ability to conceal a food baby is unrivalled. I can make them work with heavier tops, but with my usual silk flowy numbers I find them too low to tuck things into and you all know how much I love doing that. I’ve made the most of them by hacking off the bottoms to create a frayed hem, but I’m thinking of investing in a pair of white denim that ticks all my boxes as they have made a nice alternative from wearing standard indigo and faded washes. Enter the Topshop Boutique High Waist Frayed Hem Jeans that are everything I want and more. These may have made their way to me already. Haul incoming…
