My Autumn (Base) Coat

Ah man, do I love a good coat or what? Jackets, handbags, boots and workout clothes pepper my current wishlist as I’m not the biggest fan of limb-baring summer garb, so the minute the cooler weather hits I unpack my winter wardrobe and start sporting layers even if it does mean that I get a little toasty on the tube. Coats aside, I’m also a big fan of base coats when it comes to makeup. Acing the foundation department is top of my beauty priorities most mornings and the arrival of autumn does mean that I need to switch it up a little; moving from my dewy tinted-moisturiser types in my tanned-up shades, to parred-back, hydrating yet satin skin looking offerings. So I thought it was time to drop in with an update of the first things I slap onto my face in the AM:

THE PRIMERLaura Mercier Hydrating Foundation Primer. I’ve always been an Hourglass fan when it came to primers, but I have to say that this Laura Mercier formula is slowly chipping away at my decision. A water-based texture, it’s almost like putting on a light moisturiser on top of what you already have on that acts as a barrier so your complexion doesn’t eat up your makeup and adds an extra layer of juice to your skin.

THE FOUNDATIONDior Diorskin Star Foundation in 020. A new purchase that I’m sure I will detail further in another post. I dub this the choice for ‘autumn dewiness‘. It’s not too radiant and beach babe-y, but there’s a sheen to it that sits comfortably on the skin and it’s got a hint more coverage that the rest of my summer offerings which keeps my red, wind-whacked cheeks under wraps.

THE CONCEALERClarins Instant Concealer in 01. This concealer is really all kinds of dreamy. Ever wanted a medium-coverage formula that’s crease resistant, creamy and oh-so-hydrating? Then this is your guy. One small dab under my eyes and around my nose banishes circles and ruddiness and all with just a quick pat of your finger.

Then of course there’s a sprinkling of powder products for the cheekbones that come next, but more on that tomorrow because I may have finally seen what all the fuss is about with one classic ‘balmy’ highlighter…
