I loved Science at school. The mixing of elements, the dissections, the melting of pen lids in the bunsen burners – I joke, I joke, let’s stick to the whole ‘mixing of elements’ thing for the purpose of this post. Sometimes getting your mix on can bring out the best of two products; ramping up the luminosity of an overly matte foundation, toning down a bold lip to an everyday tolerance level or injecting a touch of dewy to an already kick-ass primer. Case. In. Point…
One duo that I’ve been blending on a daily basis is Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation in Sand* and Laura Mercier’s Oil-Free Tinted Moisturiser in Bisque. My skin has been struggling through a dry patch recently and the Bobbi Brown has been finishing a little too matte on it for my tastes, so one pump of that mixed with a blob of Laura Mercier’s more dew-ed up formula balances out to a face base concoction with just the right levels of oil-control and radiance. Moving onto lips, where I’ve been leaning to bolder hues that I actually don’t mind coming face to face with the general public while sporting. Inspired by good ol’ Lisa, who suggested adding a dab of a brighter shades over your usual nude offering to create a soft everyday colourful pout; the mix of MAC’s Hue Lipstick layered under Rimmel’s Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in 110 is floating my boat. Rewinding back to complexion, I love a bit of Urban Decay’s Brightening and Tightening Primer Potion* – it’s up there in my primer posse; but added to a drop of Clarins Instant Light Complexion Perfector in 01*, it really starts to hit the top position. Hydrating, illuminating and a texture that helps your base to stay on that little bit longer, I love it with a touch of This Works Perfect Look Skin Miracle (remember that one!?), layered over the top for an au naturale complexion top-up.
Blob on, get mixing and you’ll never know what you’ll end up making. A+’s in makeup mixology all round.
