MAC have new collections every two minutes these days. Blink and you miss ’em it seems. To my calculation I think this collection would have hit stores a few days ago, so hopefully they’ll still be chance to grab the bits and bobs mentioned below, but it might be a case of ‘Run Forest, Run’, so slip on those trainers and shun the glass slippers. I’ve been giving a go a few items from the much hyped-up Cinderella collection. There’s just something that happens when MAC pairs up with Disney and it’s those collaborations that always pique my interest, despite not being the most into Princesses or pink, though this time round everything is packaged up with pretty iridescent lilac garb. Early reviews are mixed for this and I feel the same way. There’s some really cracking items, but if you’re not the world’s biggest fan of shimmer then there’s definitely some things to ditch…
Let’s talk through the shimmer-laden items first. There are two lipsticks in this collection and I’ve given a go Royal Ball which is the pinkier of the two. A few years ago I would have been all over this frost-finished, über nude – it’s almost like Hue, but with golden flecks running through it – but now it just makes me look a tad too pale and washed out. Seriously though, a 19 year old Anna would have queued outside the store on launch morning for this stuff. The other glitter-filled product is their Studio Eye Gloss in Lightly Tauped; a former Pro product that’s now available online and has been packaged up specially for the occasion. You know when you see glossy lidded models strutting down the runway? Well this is the kind of product that comes in to play there. It’s a thick, thick gloss that when blended over the lid gives shine and oodles of multi-tonal glitter. It’s stunning. However, the application and feel of the product on my lid made me shiver and caused me to remove it approximately two minutes after putting it on. It was like having the world’s stickiest gloss on my lid and each time I wanted to close my eyes it required effort. In theory? Love it. In practice? Not so much.
So with a major fail and a semi-fail amongst the collection it wasn’t looking good, but that’s when the Stroke of Midnight Eyeshadow Palette rode into town and saved the day. Six MAC neutral shadows, ranging from frost to matte – it’s a crowd pleaser. Now five of the shades are already in MAC’s permanent collection, it’s just the glitter-flecked, deep purpley black, Stroke of Midnight, that’s limited edition, but I’m loving having this little palette with some MAC classics in grouped together. Along with Stroke of Midnight there’s Vapour, Phloof!, Omega (already purchased), Quarry and Satin Taupe. It’s a nice versatile palette with the option to do something light and everyday-ish, to a mattes-only eye or something a little smokier. One to pick up if you haven’t already got the majority of the shades.
