‘One more red lipstick won’t hurt‘ is something I would quite like printed out onto a t-shirt. Actually, ‘One more lipstick won’t hurt‘ is probably more appropriate, because good ol’ lip colours are my beauty soft-spot. There’s always space in my stash for another one. A freshly visual merchandised MAC Lipstick stand is one of my designated happy places and that’s exactly where I headed after I watched Zara’s Top 5 MAC Lipsticks for A/W video. She recommended Chili, a colour I hadn’t heard much about before. Zara said it was rusty and orange-toned and it reminded her of autumn leaves. SOLD. The next day I was down at my local MAC and doing the deed…
Big love to Zara for the heads up on this one because Chili is exactly what I was looking for as my red to take me right through autumn and into festive season too. It is orange-based, but there’s a brown tone to it as well (which hasn’t come through too much in the pictures above so I suggest you swatch it for yourself if you can) which makes it more of an antiqued, old-skool red. Like a movie star red; I feel subtly glam when I put it on. The only downside is the brown undertone in it doesn’t work pearly miracles so I’ve been upping my tooth-whitening regime each time I use it. But then who cares? Yellow teeth, schmellow teeth. The texture is matte, but it’s creamier than most and applies best if you use a brush to get the outline and then dab it from the bullet to get the colour into the centre of the lips.
You know me. I like it worn minimally with a good base, big brows and a load of mascara on the lashes, but screw it – I think this would look seriously badass with a bolder look on the eyes and cheeks too. Also because it’s not super bright it’s a great beginner red too. Seriously give it a go – it’s going to look B-E-A-Utiful with a tonne of eye colours and complexions. So that’s my autumn red ticked off the list. What bold are you planning to don for the next few months? Hit me up with your suggestions because as I mentioned before, one more lipstick won’t hurt…
