Liquid lipstick are really having a moment right now and I’m ok with that. Not only are they one of the most long-wearing lip formulas out there, they stay matte, don’t smudge or budge and aren’t too tough to apply once you get the knack of their doe-foot applicators. They’re also one of the only colourful lip options that I can coerce Mark into kissing when I’m wearing them by kissing the back of my hand – ‘Look, it doesn’t come off! PROMISE!‘. When I want to rock a bold, it’s my liquid lipstick stash that I start digging around in. I’ve tried a fair amount of formulas and as always with all things beauty, some are better than others; so below I thought I’d collate my top three picks, along with my favourite colours from the bunch…
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet – £9 – from ASOS. When it comes to budget liquid lipsticks these are bloomin’ awesome. The texture is thin so they’re easy to apply and they dry down to a matte stain that doesn’t feel too drying on the lips. in fact, you can barely feel there’s anything there. In terms of colours I find the reds and pinks to perform a little more opaque than the berries, so I love a bit of Pink Pong, the only cool-toned pink that I can actually wear, Hot Pepper, a bright red and Olé Flamingo, a warm coral-y pink which is my fave of their current offering.
Sephora Cream Lip Stain – $14 – from Sephora. These are my ‘somewhere in the middle‘ option and though they’re a pain to ship over from the U.S, it’s well worth the wait (they also stock these in the European Sephora’s, so if you spot one on your travels then make sure you fill up your suitcase with these!). A little thicker than the Bourjois, these paint on completely opaque with just one coat and smell all nice like vanilla. 01 Always Red is a classic red that you can’t go wrong with, but I really like 03 Strawberry Kissed which leans a little more pink.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick – $20 – from Sephora. If I had to pick one though, then these would be it; mainly for the colour range, which is awesome (there’s a tonne of new shades – I think I need to make some more purchases!). Never streaky and never chalky, these make your lips matte matte, but they last so well. I wore one up to London last week for the day, applied it around 7.30am and by the time I got back that night at 8pm it was still there and all I’d done was re-apply a bit in the centre of my lips around midday. Mad. A-Go-Go, an orange with a bit of red, is the one I reach for the most, but Berlin is a nice soft rose option, Outlaw is a solid red and L.U.V – a bright purple – looks nuts in the tube, but looks great when mixed in with other colours to add a bit of berry into the mix.
