Sometimes I find myself browsing through my back-catalogue of posts (there’s almost 2,000 of them!) mainly for the LOL’s as I had no eyebrows back then and a love for extreme amounts of fake tan; but in all seriousness it’s interesting to see how my makeup tastes and stash has changed over the years. One theme though, that runs constantly though literally every summer season I’ve blogged is my love of peach. Gawd a peachy pink lip or blush and a soft warm champagne eyeshadow is my beauty comfort zone in the warmer months and I have a feeling it will always be that way. First I saw Tati put a spotlight on her favourite peach tones, then Sandra did a run down of her top peach lip products and that got me searching through my drawers for the best coral tones that make me swoon and here’s what I came up with…
For eyes I can’t say I’m very experimental and tend keep things more on the shimmery side to ensure it’s über wearable. I don’t talk about it much these days, but MAC Eyeshadow in All That Glitters is probably my most-used colour of all time. It’s golden, but warm and metallic but still very subtle. Oh it just makes me feel all happy whenever I have it on #Memories. A similar one is NARS’ Eyeshadow in Nepal which actually packs more of a peachy punch, though if we’re talking peach peach then it’s all about Makeup Geek Eyeshadow in Peach Smoothie, which is a matte formula that’s great for a transition shade for basically every eye look.
For cheeks I dip my brush into the peach pool even further. My newest love is the Clinique Cheek Pop in Melon Pop, which is a bright neon-ish peachy pink that perks things up and is basically impossible to go overboard with. Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion is a very similar colour that has a touch more highlighter to it, making it an even better option for blush newbies. A creamy formula that’s probably the truest peach of them all is Bourjois’ Cream Blush in 01, which is all warm and nice and orangey (in a good way). True to its name, Laura Mercier’s Second Skin Cheek Colour in Lush Nectarine does exactly what it says on the tin and has a vein of golden shimmer running though it. That one is probably my most worn peach cheek over the years.
Where I go all out with peach, is with the lips. Now I’ve had a look through my favourites and it appears that a load of them are limited edition or discontinued – what’s all that about? YSL’S Rouge Volupte Lipstick in #30 Faubourg Peach looks as though it may have been discontinued, but #13 Peach Passion is pretty similar, CHANEL’s Rouge Coco Shine in 48 Evasion is a goner too, but again there are similar ones in the range. MAC always have pretty ones in their L.E collections and I still have a special place in my heart for Cut a Caper and Jazzed from ranges that were launched many moons ago.
In terms of ones you can actually get your hands on I love Clinique’s Pop Lip Colour + Primer in Melon Pop (sister to the blush mentioned above) which is a pale peach that works well when smooshed into the lips (reach technical term there). In my handbag currently is NARS’ Sheer Lipstick in Barbarella which being a little thinner in formula is so easy to whack on. No mirror, on it goes – it’s allllll peachy.
