Kevyn Aucoin is fast becoming a brand that I could pour over their counters for a good 15 minutes and leave with handfuls of bounty and an arm tattooed-up of swatches. Their range may be difficult to come across but the line is small but edited, neutral but daring and appealing named without being smutty (yes, I’m looking at you NARS). Enter their newest release, the wistfully titled, Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm*. With skin boosting claims, lightweight pigment promises and a paraben and oil-free formula this sounded right up my street…
To cut to the chase, on the spectrum of face bases I’d place it slap bang in between a BB cream and a tinted moisturiser. The formula may be a little thick out of the tube but it melts into the skin and leaves a soft veil of coverage; a hint more than the BB creams that I’ve tried but less than my tinted moisturiser favourites, see above for picture of me sporting it - please excuse the still pink freshly plucked brows and dry ol’ lips – somebody grab me Baume de Rose! The highs? It’s not too dewy nor matte and the clear fronted, slim squeezy tube packaging is novel and travel-friendly. The lows? Only four shades are available – sort it out the peeps at Kevyn Aucoin! I have the shade SB03 which is a smidge too dark for my current January flush. I’ve seen comparisons be drawn to my beloved Chantecaille Just Skin, and although the textures may be similar, the Chantecaille has a much more dewy outcome, a tad more coverage and a better colour range by a pinch.
In a nutshell, if your complexion is near enough flawless (gives mini round of applause for you – you go girl), and you need a hint of coverage from a formula with just the right balance of matteness and dewiness then I think you may have met your match in Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm, which can be in your hands for £36 from Space NK. If not, then it’s perhaps one to bookmark for a summer purchase when we’re all craving a little less coverage. I for one will be storing this away till I’m looking slightly more sunkissed (crosses fingers), which judging by the dodgy British weather I may have to exit the country to achieve…
