*NEW STUFF ALERT*
Aside from picking up the odd beauty bit, bob and repurchase from Boots, it’s been a long time since I properly hauled some brand-spanking new stuff. You know the type of ‘I don’t need any of this, but who cares? TAKE MY MONEY’ one? Case in point was this mini haul that I ordered off Selfridges that featured some skincare items I’ve heard everyone talk about, and some makeup items that I’ve heard no one talk about. They were all just things that caught my eye and I have to say that I picked pretty well because I’ve been using all of them, and enjoying it, since they dropped through my letterbox two weeks ago now. Are you ready for an old school beauty post? Ok, it’s dropping in 5, 4, 3, 2…
Years back I used to be a big fan of the Dr Jart+ Water Fuse BB Cream. I can’t quite remember why I strayed, but it was a product I used often and I’m pretty sure I repurchased it too. Recently though Dr Jart+ has come back on my radar because Caroline and Lily keep banging on about how bloomin’ amazing the Ceramidin Cream is. It got to the point where Lily was mentioning it every single time I saw her. A purchase had to happen and I’m so pleased it did. They were right (obvs). It’s a moisturiser that comes in four different forms – a cream, a gel-cream, a liquid and an oil balm (I’m tempted to pick up the latter for the winter). The idea being that it caters for everyone across the board depending on your skin type and formula preferences. Have a read of Caroline’s review for all the technical nitty gritty – I agree with every single word. It’s a great final step moisturiser for both AM and PM and feels thick and nourishing, but without being heavy or greasy on the skin. I find it to be quite similar to the Glossier Priming Moisturiser Rich, which I love, but it’s in more travel friendly packaging which I’m all about.
The other Dr Jart+ product that I purchased is the Premium Beauty Balm WHICH I LOVE. Perhaps even more than the Ceramidin. In terms of coverage it sits somewhere between the Glossier Skin Tint which has zero, and the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream which has a decent amount and seriously brings the glow. It’s really impressive and makes my skin look radiant, whilst evening things out. It’s the kind of product that I’d take on holiday with me to use in the evenings as a foundation substitute or wear on weekdays or weekends where I’m not really wearing much makeup. My only gripe is that it has a lot of warmth to it, which is something that I think I can pull off during the summer, but it might come off a bit orange in the winter. I’ll report on that one.
I always have been and always be, a sucker for a new base product. I’ve tried them all – full coverage, tints, creams, gels, cushions – and I feel like I’ll forever been on the eternal hunt for the perfect base that gives glow, coverage and hangs around all day. The aforementioned It Cosmetics product is about as close as I’ve come to finding ‘the one’, but I can always be tempted to stray. Now the Missha Original Tension Packed Foundation won’t be knocking it of it’s perch anytime soon, but it is one of my favourite ‘cushion’ bases that I’ve tried. It’s not strictly a cushion formula because it’s actually a super creamy gloopy foundation mix, held behind a stretched net – hence the ‘tension packed’. This means that you can pick up a little or a lot of product depending on how much you jab your finger or a sponge in. I find the coverage to be medium, the glow to be off the chart, but unfortunately the colour is a little light for me right now; so this will be something that I revert back to in the winter months when I finally make peace with the fact that I’m a MAC NW15.
I don’t like to buy makeup that I know I won’t use frequently. For example, glitter eyeliners which look so frickin’ amazing that I have turn my head away whenever I visit a Sephora. STEP AWAY FROM THE GLITTER. However when it comes to things that I use most days – like bronzer or mascara – then I’m game to give a new one a go. Bizarrely both of these purchases come from YSL which wasn’t intentional, they just both caught my eye when I was browsing the ‘new in’ section. So first up we have the Les Sahariennes Bronzing Stones Collector Palette. I must admit that the packaging might have had something to do with this, but I have to say the product inside gets a thumbs up from me too. It’s warm, but not orange and has a slight sheen to it, which works well when I want to use a cream product but can’t be arsed to get my fingers dirty, as this gives a similar effect.
You know I’m a tough one to impress in the category of mascaras – there are just the two that I buy on a cycle and have done for the past two years – but now there is a new one to add to the rotation, YSL The Shock Waterproof Mascara. I saw the word ‘waterproof, I saw the promise of volume, and I was sold. Firstly, this holds a curl. Like really well. Secondly, it gives super black, high volume. Making it one that I reach for when I’m attempting a more dramatic eye look. Finally, it doesn’t move, flake or smudge. So it’s an all round winner for me. In fact when I use it my eyelashes hit my eyebrows, which isn’t hard because my eyebrows are massive, but still – WIN.
