Every now and again I rediscover an old beauty favourite and wonder why the hell I’ve let it gather dust in my drawers. Case in point – Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. Now don’t think that I’ve left this formula out in the dark to get cold, because it has survived many of my base clear-outs and I always tout it as one of my favourite complexion companions, but it’s been a while since I’ve worn it day-in, day-out. I tend to just grab for it whenever I have a long day because it clings onto my face in the nicest way possible or whenever I’m filming a video because it looks pretty darn nice under studio lights, though recently I’ve been enjoying it every darn day. Here’s why…
Now I know it might not look like much in the photo (excuse the bad lighting/lash/hair/everything day but I thought I’d include it anyway – PAH!), but this gives a medium to full coverage without actually looking like you’ve got anything on the skin. I do my makeup pushed up close to a mirror because I really need to get an eye test and you know how sometimes with foundations you can see tiny specks of pigment setting up shop in all your porous areas? Well this doesn’t do that. I mean, it sets, but in an extremely natural way that isn’t exactly glowy, but isn’t exactly matte either.
Aside from its wear time and ability to look d’bomb in pictures which is are obvious winners for me, I also love the fact that it’s not too dense and so gives a nice nod to whatever base or primer you use underneath it. Pop on something oil absorbing and you’ll end up with a matte base that doesn’t need powdering, whereas if you go for something like the BECCA Backlight Priming Filter or my recent discovery, MAC’s Strobe Cream, then you’ve got a dewy-fied base on your hands. It’s just one of those multi-taskers. I must also mention that I like to apply it with a brush for ease of use, but if you want something a little lighter in the coverage department then it’s beautiful worked in with the fingers too. In fact I think I love it even more with fingers, but you know… CBA – most of the time.
It’s worth noting that I use 4 as my ‘haven’t been bothered to fake tan in yonks, so let’s just warm things up a little‘ shade and 6 if I’m feeling really optimistic. I was going to say ‘/been on holiday‘ but I’m one of those people who goes away for a week and comes back looking exactly the same, just a tad redder – lovely.
