I’m now over two weeks in to my Half Marathon training and you know what? I’m very proud to say that I’ve stuck to my schedule, been eating pretty clean-ish and have been up at the crack of dawn (thank gawd for my Lumie Light) to get my workouts in. I thought I’d kind of got this fitness thing down, but as I continue to try and break a sweat most days I realise that you’ve never really got it down – there’s always something new to challenge you both physically and mentally – oooooh deep.
My current new challenge is classes. Though general gym use has all the advantages of being chocker full of super cool/terrifying looking equipment that I don’t have at home, it was the classes that were included in my membership that I enjoyed the most. So I’ve ventured out the box a little trying disciplines that I’ve never given a go before and I think adding them into my training mix is really what’s kept me going this time. I’ve made new friends, bumped into old mates and I quite like the routine of it all.
BOOMCycle, a 45 minute session of spinning to the beat of music is something I now do twice a week and it’s so much fun. It’s hard (I’ve never sweated out of my eyelids before), but afterwards you feel ridiculously amazing. Some instructors do a song at the end where you spin in candlelight and it always makes me feel slightly emotional. I know, so lame. Others play Christina Aguilera’s ‘Fighter’ and then I subsequently sing that under my breath for the rest of the day.
Then there’s Reformer Pilates, which just so happens to be one of the priciest classes I’ve ever done (hence why I do this one just once a week). I’m sure this isn’t the most technical of explanations but it’s the one where you do Pilates moves on a machine that looks a bit like a torture device. It’s strengthening and balancing but in a subtle way. I’m still on the beginners classes so things aren’t too advanced yet but though I don’t come out BOOMCycle sweaty, I come out feeling taller and looking less like Quasimodo which is a good thing because I have the world’s worst posture.
Here’s a question for ya. Any of you given a class a go that you fell in love with? One I need to add into the mix perhaps?
P.S) In case you were wondering the leggings are from Fashercise and make me feel like a really cool backing dancer whenever I wear them.
