When it comes to Twitter I try and respond to every single tweet I receive – though I’ve been a little lax in recent days due to a mini holiday, shhhhh – it’s just the easiest place to strike up conversation with you lot and keep on top of what I’ve replied to and all that jazz. So if you’re ever in the mood to have a chat then head over there. Over recent weeks I’ve been keeping a mental tally of reoccurring questions that crop up often and thought I’d collate them into one handy FAQ style post. Maybe you were pondering the to be mentioned, or maybe not – either way here are the answers…
Q. I’m going to the US – what beauty buys should I pick up?
A. Have no fear because I have a shopping list featuring all my favourites and suggestions here. It’s an old post, but not much has changed in the past year or so, though I did add on a few bits in this post if you want the latest version. But in terms of general brands that I recommend having a dig around their counters I’d suggest Tarte, Make Up For Ever, Josie Maran, Fresh, Wet and Wild and even Revlon and L’Oreal as the range available overseas is seriously huge.
Q. I’m coming to the UK – what beauty buys should I pick up?
A. I listed my top five must-buys here, but I do also remember mentioning a few items in one of mine and Lily Pebbles’ first Beauty Chat videos too. I’ll see if I can firm the answer to this question up into a post v.soon as there are many, many other items that I’d suggest raiding our drugstores for.
Q. What shade are you in ‘insert product name here’ foundation?
A. Now this is one I get asked a lot. Let me just have a quick raid around my foundation section…OK, so I’m roughly a B10/B20 in CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation, a 4 or 6 in Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk, 125 in Make Up For Ever HD Foundation (though it is definitely for my more tanned moments), Deauville in NARS Sheer Glow, 100 in Dior Airflash, B20 in YSL Teint Touche Eclat and somewhere in between N1 and N2 in L’Oreal True Match. Though I haven’t worn a MAC foundation in yonks, back in the day when I did I was around an NW20. And for all the aforementioned where I mention two shades, the lighter of the two matches me in my natural state and the darker when I’ve been reaching for the faux tanner.
Q. What’s your favourite tinted moisturiser/foundation?
A. This is such a toughie. Tinted moisturiser-wise I do love the Jouer Luminizing and Matte Moisture Tints – though I did do a post on my top picks with reasonings for each here. And for foundation it’s really a tussle between three: the CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua for everyday, the NARS Sheer Glow for daily use when I need a bit more coverage and Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk for filming and evenings out. And for reference I have pretty normal-ish skin with a bit of dryness round my eyes and nose and a lil’ greasiness on the chin.
Q. I want to start a blog – any advice?
A. Funny you should ask because Lily Pebbles and I churned out a 6-part series ‘Guide to Blogging and Vlogging‘. I’ll pop a link to the playlist here, but it should answer any questions or concerns a blogging beginner might have. We’re actually thinking of posting up a follow-up soon, so any questions you’d want answered in that do feel free to share ’em below. Good luck!
Q. I’m coming to London – recommendations?
A. Yes! Plenty. All my favourite places to eat, shop and what to buy are linked-up here and if you end up at my ‘Top Beauty Landmarks’ post – a.k.a) all the best places to get your spend on – you’ll even find a map. But if you ever find yourself in town and stuck for what to do then feel free to drop me a tweet, or though I may just point you in the direction of Lily – she’s good with that kinda stuff, she’s like my personal London tour guide.
Q. Skincare or makeup?
A. Easily one of the most hard-hitting questions I’ve ever been asked. And no matter how much time I spent processing this one I’m not sure I’d ever reach a conclusion. It’s impossible I’m afraid…
