Looking back on the resolutions that I’ve made myself for the year of 2016 they’re not huge, massive goals that are going to take months and months of slogging away to achieve, nor are they going to have some kind of ‘a-ha!’ tick ’em off the list moment where I feel like I’ve nailed them. Instead they’re little things. More habits to incorporate on a daily basis. Small things that when added up make a big change and a big difference. That’s what the Starbucks No Ordinary Latte campaign is all about. For the month of January they’re offering personalisation extras on your usual cup of Joe in the morning for no additional cost. It’s all about how seemingly tiny tweaks can turn something ordinary into something awesome. So today I’m sharing my top five tips for turning a blah day into a badass one. This one goes out to all the peeps suffering with the mid-week blues today…

GO OUTSIDE. If it’s not blowing a gale or tipping it down with rain, then there’s something about getting some fresh air in your lungs that feels awesome. I like to don some sports gear for a walk round the block because it makes me feel like if I do get the yearning for a quick sprint then I’m equipped. It never happens, but just incase…

RELAX. Do something that makes you feel nice and zen. For some that might be going to the gym and for others it might just be taking the time to have a lovely, bubble-filled, long bath *raises hand*. May I suggest a warm bath, followed by a tonne of body moisturiser when you get out. It. Feels. AWESOME. Or I’ve been enjoying a little cooking session as a bit of ‘me time’ recently too. I mean only half of the cookie mixture actually makes it into the oven, but that’s half the fun – right?

DITCH THE SCREEN. I’m so awful at this, so it’s definitely a case of practicing what you preach here; but having a little space and time away from your laptop and phone is always a good thing. I try to make the evenings a screen-free zone (emphasis on the ‘try‘) and give myself little breaks throughout the day to read instead and try not to just watch Parks & Recreation on repeat in the background.

TRY SOMETHING NEW. Doing something fresh and new that scares you a little is always bloomin’ terrifying but is something that makes you feel so good when you’ve conquered it. For me it’s going to the gym alone. Although my attendance has been good during January I’ve always buddied up with my Personal Trainer, but I think it’s time for me to try it alone. Wish me luck…

A GOOD DEED. Drop off some food at your local foodbank. Clear out your wardrobe and pop down to your local charity shop to send your leftovers to a good home. Finally get round to sponsoring your mate for running that 10K or doing Dry January. DO IT.

Do one of the above or do them all; either way today will feel a little more awesome because of it. For me? I’ll be getting some fresh air on my wander to my local Starbucks to grab a Cappuccino with a shot of Caramel Syrup and Whipped Cream. Come to Mama…
