Most beauty bits shoved into the spotlight here on VDM fall into the ‘want, but not necessarily need‘ category. Very pretty, sure to have pride of place in your stash, but ones to add to the wishlist – you know? Well today I’m upping the game, giving you the deets on five products that I reckon every makeup maven must have tucked away somewhere; tools, formulas and secrets that impact my time spent at my dressing table in a very special way. I’m wary to throw the phrase ‘life-changing’ in, because it’s only makeup at the end of the day, but dayum – the following five are well worth the splurge…
Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium. I must test and dismiss a different contour product on a weekly basis because nothing I’ve tried – old or new – comes close to this stuff. With a grey, taupe undertone that mimics that exactly of a natural shadow and in a formula that’s easy to dust on with any tapered brush it naturally gives structure to my football shaped face without any skill set. Hitting pan is imminent and there’s not many other products I could say that with.
MAC Eye Brushes. My technique when it comes to eyeshadow is practically non-existent and I put the fact that I can even do one, very simple, version of a smokey eye down to these brushes. The 217 and 224 are particularly kick-ass – and though it’s been said a million times before – they do all the work for you. In fact, a second 217 is on my shopping list…
Optrex Dazzling Eye Dew. I’ve been struggling with irritated eyes that made it look like I was suffering with pink eye for the past few months down to restless nights and a never-ending to-do list, so this stuff has saved me from looking like a movie villain. It instantly soothes, giving moisture to my irises and zaps redness in a few blinks. A complete game changer if your eyes are well past their bedtime like mine.
Japonesque Power Curl Lash Curlers. Unless you are graced with lashes that naturally defy gravity then an eyelash curler is indispensable. A quick crimp helps to lengthen, lift and increase flutter and there’s not a morning that goes by where I don’t use one. Previously I’d waxed lyrical about the Shu Uemura offering, but the Japonesque ones just inch past for being able to eek out that curl a tad bit easier and with much less tugging. Harder to find, but well worth the scavenger hunt.
Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors. I’d go as far to say that these are my favourite lip products ever. So much so that it’s the only line where I have in my possession every, single colour. Oops. They may seem to make a pretty big dent for a lipgloss, but think a gloss, with colour, shine and nourishment that means that there’s never an opportunity where these guys don’t work. The two pinky hues are my favourite and at least one of them resides in my handbag at all times. Oh and they smell of vanilla. If you don’t like them then I’ll eat a banana. And I hate bananas.
