When it’s hot and sticky there’s nothing worse than experiencing the feeling of foundation slowly melting off your face, well except being on a stuffy tube and being held at a red signal in a tunnel. Blurgh. All this L.A heat and humidity is making me realise just how much I love my ‘no makeup’ makeup bases. They’re not really up there with the level of a tinted moisturiser, nor are they just a hydration and SPF boost for your skin, they’re sort of in the middle and when paired with a bit of concealer where you fancy it you can fake a clear complexion without the need for a thick layer of gloop all over your face. Isn’t makeup weird when you think about it? Bizarre. Anyway here are five of my favourites that I’m looking forward to being reunited with when I get back…
BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream in 02 – £26 from LookFantastic. When I first swatched this in store I wasn’t impressed. It seemed dry and patchy, but on the face it’s another story because I love it. In fact before I headed out here, this is what I was wearing most days on my skin. A light coverage is there, but it’s very skin-like and natural on the skin. A great all-rounder.
Vichy Ideal Soleil BB Cream Tinted SPF 50 – £15.50 from Boots. This is the most BB-ish of them all with a big whack of SPF (huge!), hydration and just a little little bit of tint. If you like something quite rich and have a dry complexion then I’d point you in the direction of this. For me this is one I’d pop in my beach bag because the coverage is minimal but the protection is maximal.
Lancôme Renergie Éclat Multi-Lift in 1 – £40 from Selfridges. If there was once that was über close to being described as a tinted moisturiser, then it’s this one because the coverage is there and thankfully it’s available in a good couple of shades. Plus points for the pump and the thick, but quick to blend formula. It’s good skin in a tube.
Clinique Even Better Dark Spot Defence SPF 45 – £26 from FeelUnique. I’d say this is probably the best option for those with an oily skin that don’t appreciate formulas with too much oil because things are very thin and easily absorbed into the skin with this one. The only issue is that there’s only one shade available and thought it’s not opaque in finish by any means, things could get a little ashy on some complexions.
Estée Lauder Revitalising Supreme C.C Creme – £40 from FeelUnique. This is probably my favourite of the the five, mainly because the tint of this product has a warm tone to it that just makes my skin look a little, though not a lot, sun kissed. Plus it’s dewy – oh my, so dewy. It truly is one of those ‘my skin, but better’ products that gives things a little lift even when you’ve ONLY slept for just a handful of hours. Man, I could do with this right now. #JetLagSucksASS
