Facial Spritzes to Set & Soothe

IMG_9392

Facial sprays are a wonderful thing and are are pretty integral to my routine. On the one hand there are the bottle-housed formulas that set; instructing makeup to stay in place where it’s been applied with an invisible feeling that often negates the need for powder. Then there are the soothing textures, often used as the ‘toner’ step during skincare that feel so darn good when sprayed but only once you get over the shock of squirting liquid in your own face. I often end up making a face that looks like I’m in terrible pain as I’m still not used it. Mind you, this is someone who hates water in their face so much the neighbours would be able to hear when my poor parents were attempting to wash my hair #DivaChild. For today’s post, I thought I’d put together a little edit of my favourite mist must-haves, because after landing from today’s long flight home I’m going to be spritzing up a storm…

Let’s chat makeup setting sprays first. It’s not pictured here because I haven’t got a bottle currently on rotation, but the Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray is the original and the best in my eyes. It sets without any residual tacky texture and does what it says on the tin, whether you’ve applied powder or not. The L’Oreal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray is the best dupe I’ve found, though is not currently available on UK shores – boo! If it’s available to you, then it’s one I highly suggest grabbing as it performs in a very similar fashion to the U.D and is a bit of a bargain compared. The other spray that I tend to use over or under my makeup is MAC’s Fix+, which is more of a ‘dewifyer‘ than anything else. It’s adds a gentle glow wherever it’s sprayed and is what I reach for if I get to the end of doing my makeup and feel like things look too matte – this brings back that skin-like look again.

OK onto the skincare and I must admit I have a few on the go, mainly because I go through them so quickly as I’m very overzealous when it comes to spraying. The bottle that I’m currently using is Tata Harper’s Hydrating Floral Essence. This stuff is hydration right there. My skin drinks it up and with a solid ingredients list, it’s something I can see myself repurchasing. On greasier days I like the feel of the Aveda Botanical Kinetics Toning Mist which has a zing of peppermint to it. It’s very light and refreshing and instantly absorbs into the skin. For something with a bit more punch on the refreshment side of things, I’m still in love with Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir, years after I first used it. I don’t tend to use it daily, but more as part of a travel routine. I always take this whenever I’m on long journeys mainly because the scent is reinvigorating and relaxing in equal measures. Can you tell I’m big on scent when it comes to my sprays? The final one is a newbie for me and is Clinique’s Moisture Surge Face Spray. Now this you can feel on your face afterwards – in a good way. If you’re dry then this is definitely what I’d point you in the direction of. It’s moisturising and gives a tonne more slip to whatever you apply afterwards which always feels so dreamy.

I’m not quite sure how I managed to type away about facial sprays for almost 600 words, but there you have it – some spritzes that set and soothe to add to your shopping list…
