…top to toe in tail-lights, oooooh I’ve got red lights on the run. If there’s one thing you should never underestimate in me, is my ability to recite cheesy Christmas classics word for word. The boy stood agog the other day while I chimed along to Boney M’s ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ but I’ve been brought up on Now That’s What I Call Christmas 1993 since a young child and I know ’em all. But my outbreak of Chris Rea was not just to show off cause I know all the words but because I am in fact today driving, well ‘train-ing’ home for Christmas and I could not be more excited. I’m currently up to my eyeballs in packing (I may even have to wear a rucksack home to transport it all, eww), but of course I already know what beauty essentials are first up into the bag…
One thing I have left over from my long-distance love days is a pre-packed skincare wardrobe, featuring a shedload of samples and decanted favourites; Emma Hardie Cleansing Balm, Alpha H Liquid Gold and Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair have been scooped and poured into tiny tubs and tubes as a travel-friendly option. Skincare sorted, my makeup for the holidays will no doubt be crammed full of the usual suspects, but for a touch of festive flavour the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Lévres Glossy Stain in #9 will be stuffed in my bag to top-off special occasions. I will admit that I’m still pretty terrible at playing it cool on Christmas Day – 6am and I’m twitching to get up – so the This Works Sleep Balm* will be a welcome addition for my tired-eyed family who rather fancy a lay-in. Something else that also smells rather bloomin’ fantastic is the Diptyque Amber Oud candle. It may seem strange lugging a candle along with me, but it ain’t called travel size for nothing and I have grand plans to burn this down while I wrap up my pressies over the weekend. Finally to prove to my parents that I’m a sophisticated lady these days, I’m ditching my usual perfume this Christmas and going for something solid, the Diptyque Eau Duelle Solid Perfume* to be precise, a product that oozes with lady-like luxe on application.
I’m sure I’ll be cursing the addition of a candle to my luggage when I’m teetering around at the station later, almost toppling over under the sheer weight of my presents, laptop, camera, lighting, two weeks worth of clothes, shoes, coats and beauty stash later on, but hey at least my room will smell damn nice. Now where did I get to? ….but soon there’ll be a freeway yeah, get my feet on holy ground….
