Exotic, but not too spicy. Floral, without being too heady. Holiday-like while still being sophisticated, are phrases that pop into my head when I’m trying to sound all fragrance-aficionado post-rollering on Diptqyque’s summer scent, Eau Moheli* (I’ve still got that ‘Diary of a Nose’ book on the brain). But this season Diptyque are building on their Floral collection with the first ylang-ylang centred scent in their line-up. Paired with green notes of violet and blackcurrant leaf, pink peppercorn, and the woody balsamic accords of patchouli, vetiver and tonka bean, it makes for an interesting alternative on the usual citrusy blends seen at this time of year. But Diptyque are never one to go with the norm, and have gone to great lengths quite literally – the island of Mohéli to be exact – to source the essence of their central note. If florals aren’t usually your thang then this is probably one to skip (and head straight for my personal favourite, Philosykos on the shelves) but if you’re game for a bout of blooms then I’m not going to stand in your way.
Diptyque hoarders and ylang-ylang lovers rejoice as Eau Moheli is available now on pre-order at Space NK. And I’ve got a smile on my face too with the discovery that Diptyque offer rollerball;Â Philosykos 20ml – come to mama.
