For the next month, if you’re within wandering distance of Knightsbridge then there’s a high chance you’ll be lured into Harrods if only by the ‘press your nose at the glass’-worthy window displays. Harrods has been Dior-fied. Accompanying the displays are a brand spanking new backstage beauty counter, limited edition pieces for diehard Diorers out there, complete with a swoon inducing exhibition occupying the four floor even housing a Dior themed cafe. After taking it all in last Friday, I was left in a bit of a Dior daze – even grinning my way through a sardine-packed tube journey home – and anything that results in that is good right?
The backstage beauty concept is the first of it’s kind to arrive in Europe, with the only other offering from Dior currently residing in Japan. I swatched my way round, and even managed to pick up a lipstick tester that hadn’t been touched yet (beauty counter gold dust) – just keep your purse handy for limited edition beauty offerings that will only be seen and sold in Harrods. With all things beauty taken care of on the ground floor, the exhibition upstairs is where the Dior dreamworld begins. Open from now till 14th April from 10am to 8pm daily and open to all – it combines a history lesson, fashion show and many the Instagramming moment all into one. Displays that elicited a gasp from moi included a mini replication of Dior Head Offices of 30 Avenue Montaigne a.k.a the dolls house we dreamed of as children, dresses as worn by Charlize Theron, Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn and a gigantic digital book which you can turn the pages of yourself – a display I spent so long on a queue formed behind me. Pop the cherry on the top with Dior themed afternoon tea and cupcakes that are almost too pretty to eat. See the use of the word ‘almost‘.
My tip off? Sharpen your elbows, have Instagram waiting, get ready to join the stampede of fashion aficionados flocking to the exhibition and be prepared to drain your phone battery. You’ll love it Diorling.
