Daydreaming About Furniture; Does That Make Me an Adult?

Home Things

There’s only one thing that occupies my daydreams these days. Furniture. I know I’m bleating on about it, but living with just a bed and a load of empty space for a fair few weeks makes sitting down on something that isn’t a fold-up camping chair a little sweeter. Popping round to family and friend’s homes just for a 30 minute stint on their sofa has become a regular thing. The one thing I didn’t realise, aside from actually deciding on what you want/where you want it and having the foresight to see if it’s an item you’ll still love in years to come, is just how long things take to arrive. Weeks, months, I’ve seen some bits I like online that won’t be dispatched until November! Madness. Thankfully bits and bobs have started to trickle through, but there’s still a tonne of stuff to get, so I thought I’d let you in on my current daydreaming topic…

IKEA is a classic. We got some of our lights from there, our wardrobe (we went for the Trysil one which has more than enough space for the two of us and is easy to split down the middle) and we’re planning on picking up some blinds and some floating shelves to use as nightstands because we’re lacking side of the bed space. Also have you seen the Sinnerlig range that’s launching in October? Be still my beating heart….

Heal’s is dreamy and ridiculously pricey, but check out their Brunel range for some modern pieces that don’t come with a mad mad price tag (though it will still make your eyes water). We picked up our bed from there and it’s nice and sturdy with plenty of space underneath for storage (they sell matching roll-out drawers if you fancy) and a soft headboard that Mark doesn’t curse every evening and get his head stuck in like he did with our last bed. I’m currently lusting after anything that is Blu Dot from there. The Free Range Marble Coffee Table is an absolute beaut of a piece that would cause us to have to eat baked beans for weeks if I eventually twist Mark’s arm enough and get my way, though it’s looking unlikely. The guy isn’t the biggest fan of marble. Darn.

Good places to browse online include Made, Swoon Editions and West Elm (GAWD – West Elm – I want it ALL), though for some bargain bits I’d point you in the direction of Lakeland Furniture. Mark and I had been eyeing up the Vitra DSW Chairs for months, but found these knock-offs online for around a 10th of the price – I know! Link here – and I can report that delivery was insanely quick and the resulting chairs are well-made and look practically screw-for-screw just like the originals. Plus, it’s a nice way to add a bit of colour to proceedings if things start to look a bit beige. We went for Marine Blue, which looks like a deep teal and we’re in love.

So interiors-wise, what you do want to see? I’m not sure if I’ve got the skillz for full-on home tour (plus it will be years till we’re at the finish line), but perhaps a few posts here and there as we tackle each room? A little sprinkling if you will. That cool?
