It’s fair to say that CHANEL always knock it out of the park when it comes to their Christmas collections. In fact I think it was two years ago that there was a palette so beautiful and so coveted that when I found some in stock, I picked one up for Lily too. It was just that beautiful. This season’s offering is just as lush looking and I actually squealed when I first set eyes on it. Yep – we’re entering grown-woman hyperventilating territory here. It’s based around their best-selling, 20-year old Le Vernis Rouge Noir, which is one of my favourite lacquers for its ‘Is it red? Is it black?‘ tendencies. There’s everything in the same blackcurrant hue from eye colours to lipsticks and let me tell you, you’ll be ringing up your mate to see if they want one too if you find what you fancy in stock. I’ve whittled it down to the highlights of the collection…
CHANEL Le Vernis Nail Colour in Rouge Noir. This is an absolute classic that always gets dusted off around this time of year. I particularly like it on the toes, but there’s something about this colour that just makes me feel put together and grown up and that’s always good thing, right? The day that CHANEL upgrade their brushes though to curved ones will be a good day. Please CHANEL!
CHANEL Le Top Coat Lamé Rouge Noir. Isn’t this beautiful? This is the product that caused my heart to pound when I first saw it. I have a feeling that this is the first time CHANEL have experimented with glitter in a polish and they’ve done so in the chicest way. Various sized chunks of rose gold glitter pair perfectly with the original Rouge Noir.
CHANEL Illusion D’Ombre Longwear Luminous Eyeshadow in Rouge Noir. My favourite favourite from this line-up. Don’t be fooled by its slightly terrifying colour in the tub because when it’s actually used it creates an extremely wearable ruddy-toned bronzey eye on the lids. You know I’m a huge fan of the Illusion D’Ombre range right now so this is a welcome addition to my collection.
CHANEL Le Crayon Kohl Intense Eye Pencil in Rouge Noir. I didn’t expect to be so excited by this product, but actually it’s one of my favourites from the collection. When first applied it looks black, but when smudged out little by little the colour gets rich and wine-like. It’s long-wearing and also doubles up as a lip liner (see below).
CHANEL Le Volume de CHANEL Mascara in Rouge Noir. Personally I’m not the biggest fan of this formula mainly because it’s not waterproof and I find it a little claggy for my lashes. So instead of using this on my top lashes, I just used it exclusively for the bottom ones to add an aubergine hue. It’s subtle, but it’s a nice nod to colour.
CHANEL Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Rouge Noir. Don’t be fooled by the ‘Intense‘ title in the product name because I found this colour to be extremely buildable and actually quite sheer on first application. The sheen makes it wearable though and smudged in with my fingers to blend in my eyeliner/lipliner hybrid gave a wearable berry stain to my lips.
I have a feeling that the official release date is tomorrow, though some counters and often the Selfridges website get things in early so it’s worth having a nose around for it now. If not, you know where you’re heading tomorrow morning…
