You know my feelings on shimmery nail polish, but in recent weeks – and after my discovery of the Ciaté Haute House collection with a rather nice ‘velvet ink‘ formula – I’m slowly coming round to the idea. ‘Slowly’ being the operative word. Now I don’t think they’ll be overtaking my completely creme textured Essie collection anytime soon (you seen it?) and there are a few stipulations, though I can now see the appeal. Firstly they’ve got to be neutral still. There won’t be any bright fuchsia, ‘in yer face’ sparkle going on round here. Secondly, it’s all about interesting shimmer. Not just your standard metallic flecks, but a colour illusion that plays around with your eyes in the light. CHANEL’s new Sweet Star is just that…
Is it a lilac? A silver? A blue? A green? Maybe it’s holographic? I’m not really sure. It’s definitely got that whole illusion thing down. It also dries so quickly, which is a huge part of the pull when it comes to metallics. With a layer of Seche Vite over the top that creates a glass-like appearance it’s fast climbing my varnish charts. The wear time isn’t too bad (I have the world’s most naturally chippy nails so I’m never the best judge of that) and I don’t think there’s been an occasion where I’ve worn it and someone hasn’t enquired into what brand it’s from.
It’s a bit of a toughie to find, stocked only at the CHANEL Boutique in Covent Garden and selected counters but if you can sniff it out then it’s one to grab to add a flash of reflective relief to your nails before the winter berry tones really take hold. Essie Luxedo here we come…
