When CHANEL add something new to their Vitalumière Aqua family (a.k.a the range that homes one of the only foundations that I reckon I will forever go back to), I listen up. We’ve had the original, and then the cream compact formula and now we’re saying hello to the loose powder version. Out on counters officially today, here’s what you need to know.
The CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Loose Powder Foundation claims to be a finely milled powder – microscopic infact – with a liquid feel that blurs imperfections and smooths the skin’s texture. Housed in a chamber enclosed by mesh which makes sure that things don’t get too messy, it also includes the world’s cutest mini kabuki. Pop it on with that and you can work your way up to a medium to full finish, or dust on with something a little less dense and there you have a nice light veil of coverage that just takes the oily-edge of a tinted moisturiser or naked skin. It’s satin-like, but not overly matte and still manages to look fresh. There are five shades available in the UK; right now I’m rocking B20, but in the winter I reckon a B10 will be on the cards.
All sounding rather fab so far? Well, unfortunately there are two pitfalls. Firstly – time. You know me, I like things to be super snappy, ‘could do it with my eyes closed, foot halfway out the door and a slice of toast in hand’ kinda makeup. Anything beauty-wise when it comes to everyday that takes up more than two minutes of my time just isn’t going to happen and though this doesn’t takes ages to apply, to buff/blend/build-up/buff again takes a bit longer than my attention span can hold. Which has lead to me to conclude that due to its light texture and equally light coverage finish it’s the perfect loose powder. So – preferred loose powder of late it is. However the second pitfall puts a bit of a stop to that one. At £55 it’s seriously pricey. That’s not the kind of dollar you want to drop on what, for me, is an ‘additional’ step, even if it does make the complexion look seriously dreamy (see above picture where despite looking like a dazed-out blow-up doll my skin doesn’t look half bad).
So with all of that taken into account, I reckon that this is to be reserved for the shopping lists of powder foundation lovers/CHANEL addicts/holders of a gift card that is burning a hole in their pockets…
