I’m a bit of a sucker for a slice of beauty history. In fact my first stop when I last visited The Science Museum was the section dedicated to makeup relics from the past – #MakeupNerd. So when I spotted this vintage looking compact from Bourjois my eyes lit up in the aisles of Boots. Available at all Bourjois stockists now, for just under a tenner, the Java Rice Powder a re-release and re-formula of a product that hit the beauty market almost 150 years ago. Say what?Â
It’s one of those products that warrants a purchase on packaging and history alone, but you know what? The product housed inside, under a spin and release wheel is pretty good too. A pinky hued powder, with a touch of shimmer that brightens the complexion with one quick sweep over the high points (though you may wish to use a light hand with this or things can get a wee bit glowy). It actually reminds me of a slightly less refined and loose version of a Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder. The shade Mood Light to be exact. Both have that ‘finishing powder/highlighter hybrid’ quality. But if you just wish to gaze at it lovingly on your dressing table, I get ya girl. I’ll be doing the same.
