I do love a good cream eyeshadow stick. The By Terry Ombre Blackstars are up there in my favourite makeup products of all time. I love how you can just swipe them on and go, either using their width for a bit of lashline definition or drawing them all over the lid and blending out with your fingers as a wash of colour building it up as you wish. They’re a multi-functional item that even eye makeup noobs like myself can master. Thankfully the highstreet is wising up to just how handy and amazing these sticks of pigment are and recently Bourjois have shown their hand in the category and let me tell you, they are rather impressive indeed.
They are called the Colorband Eyeshadow & Liner and first up let’s discuss the price – £5.99 – what a bargain. There are six colours in total, mostly crowd-pleasing colours and they’re designed like a sized-up eyeliner so will require sharpening when things start to get a bit messy on the tip. When I first swatched these I did the usual; marvelled at the colours on the back of my hand for a while and then did the ‘vigorously try to rub it off’ thing which is not the most accurate of tests because it’s not a move I regularly crack out on my eyelids, but anyway these lines of colour did not budge. At all. No shimmer transfer, no colours that were a little less gripping than others; all of them stayed put.
This property thankfully transfers to the lid, but it does mean that you have to be pretty snappy with where you wish to apply your colour, doing one eye at a time to get the most out of their movability before they dry and set. Personally the black, grey and lilac shades aren’t my cup of tea with the later being a pretty shade, but one that’s too heavy on the silver glitter. I like the creamy gold Beige Minimaliste and the slightly more pinky Rose Fauviste as everyday washes of sheer colour as these don’t bring the pigment, but more shine than anything else. Though it’s the colour Brun Dadaïste that really floats my boat. A straight up bronze with a hint of copper to it – yaaaaasssss. There’s just the right amount of shimmer without it looking too flat or ’90’s and it’s not too dark either meaning it works well as an everyday eyeliner.
Bourjois – you’ve done it again. *inserts applaud emoji*
