I’ve been giving a delivery vans worth of new foundations and bases a go recently, and this new(ish) offering from Bobbi Brown is the cream of the crop. The Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation*, from the off doesn’t sound like something that would be too up my street. Firstly, it’s a foundation and I just haven’t been reaching for them too much, secondly the name ‘Long-Wear’ to me conjures up Estée Lauder Double Wear visions and thirdly all the marketing garb had me believing this was a matte-finisher. Despite my reservations, from first application I was impressed – I even got two compliments, two days on the trot wearing this. I think we may be onto a winner…
Like all Bobbi Brown bases, it lines-up shade wise with the rest of the range and my usual shade in my Creamy Concealer, Sand is the perfect foundation colour match for me. I use about two pumps for my whole face and find the coverage to be light-to-medium when blended in with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush – a bit of concealer on the end of my rudolph red nose and under my eyes and I’m good to go. The finish is more on the matte side of proceedings, but throughout the day it allows a few oils through the net and I actually prefer the look of it after a few hours of wear – ain’t nothing wrong with a bit of ol’ shine. The selling point for me is the lasting power. 12 hours later, it still looks the same, coverage-wise – no kiddin’ – and without all the cakeiness and dryness associated with other offerings in the same category. The ridiculously long-wearing, comfortable feeling, lightweight blendable formula for me, draws comparisons with the Jemma Kidd Light As Air (cue angelic music). Now I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s an exact dupe, as the Jemma Kidd has a touch more coverage, but it’s the closest I’ve found.
A bottle of the stuff will set you back £30, available on all Bobbi Brown counters and online. I don’t think it’s a bad price – it pitches a little higher than it’s comparable Jemma Kidd Light As Air, but is housed in much more practical packaging and perhaps it’s a smidge more of a prestigious brand. I for one will be grabbing this foundation by the horns to take me through the next few wind-battering, rain-pouring, snow-scattering months. You in?
