Over the past week I’ve been suffering with a case of the sniffles. Now it has never cumulated to a full-on ‘I can’t move from the bed, I can’t breathe out of either nostril and my head feels like it’s going to explode‘ day, but it’s just plodded on and made me feel lethargic and moany (yes – poor Mark). It’s during this time that I’ve truly understood the power of Emergen-C, staying hydrated and what a difference a coat of tinted moisturiser does. So here are my top tips for when you feel like *insert the poop emoji*…
STAY HYDRATED. It’s such a boring tip that you might as well just skip over to the next one, but whenever I’m not feeling 100% I feel like it’s even more obvious when I’m dehydrated. I try to keep a pint sized glass next to me and gulp it down at regular intervals; plus I jazz it up by keeping a jug in the fridge with a few mint leaves dunked in it. It’s not the most mind-blowing tip, but it’s certainly the one that I find makes the biggest difference.
A HINT OF TINT. Why is it that when you’re feeling at your most grim that you have a to-do list up to your elbow? That was the case last week and as I had a tonne of videos to film, it wasn’t really an option to wallow and I have to say that putting on a bit of base and just makeup in general made me feel so much better as well as look way more presentable. In these kinds of times I always end up grabbing the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream (I currently use a mix of Fair and Light), because it’s got an absolute tonne of coverage, but also adds some serious glow to my complexion. Speaking of glow, this video might come in handy if you fancy any more suggestions.
LASHINGS OF LASH. I’ve been getting a few comments about my eyelashes recently and I’m pinning that down to my lash lift (courtesy of Jamie Louise Beauty) still going strong, but a nice coat of mascara really does wonders to perk up the face – or at least that’s what I’ve found in the past week. What I also found out over the past week is that waterproof mascaras are key. There’s so much eye smoshing/watering going on that after one day in the Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara I looked like a panda. Instead I’d recommend the L’Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions Waterproof Mascara (not available in the UK – boo!) or the Lancome Hynose Waterproof Mascara.
LIP COLOUR LOVE. When I’m feeling extra grey I find that getting my lip colour right, especially when it comes to nudes is very important. Anything too beige just emphases the fact that I look like the skull emoji (on top of the poop emoji I look like a right old mess), so I find that I need something on my lips that has a nice amount of pink and coral to it. Of course I’m going to give a mention to my favourite lip product at the moment – the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm, which is great spring nude with a nice amount of peach to it. Though Clinique’s Lip Pop in Melon Pop and Marc Jacobs’ New Nudes Lipstick in Understudy are great perker-uppers too.
