VDM has existed as its own little corner of the Internet for over four years now and I often forget that 99.99% of you weren’t there for my first post featuring a peek into my makeup bag, written in Times New Roman font and containing pictures taken from my phone that blasted out polyphonic ringtones. It’s long gone (though my first YouTube video is still up for the world to see if you want some cringey viewing), but you lot just keep growing – which I am forever grateful for, thank you (sending hugs, love and brownies). So I thought seeing as the summer could make an appearance soon – ‘could’ being the operative word there – I’d let you in on a few warm weather favourites that get cracked out every single year. VDM long-timers take it as a refresher course, newbies – hello and welcome to your daily dose of beauty release where you can comment on cosmetics till the cows come home if you want to – this one’s for you…
The Body Tanner That Rules – Xen-Tan Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe. I don’t possess enough fingers and toes to count the amounts of faux tanners that I’ve tried and tested over the years, so let’s just say a lot. But three years or so after cracking out this one for the first time, it’s still my favourite. A moisturising lotion that doesn’t fade in a weird fashion and washes the skin with a not at all orange tinge of tan, surprisingly I find a bottle lasts me yonks, years even (but that’s because I mostly just tan my arms – shhhh).
The Grim, But Great Purchase –Tweezerman Foot File. Easily one of the best purchases I’ve made in recent years. I won’t go into the ins and outs of foot filing for you, but let’s just say though the noise it makes it vile, the results are heavenly.
The Sole Smoothers – The Margaret Dabbs Foot Set. These bits and bobs along with the file exclusively make up my at home pedi set which whenever I can be bothered to reach for makes my feet feel like I’m walking on little fluffy clouds. The scrub gets to work and the oil is dreamy – I apply as the last step, slip some socks, go to bed and wake up with soles that feel almost slippery. It’s a lengthy process, but one that means that a professional doesn’t have to go near my ridiculously tickley feet.
The Sun Lotion That Smells Like Summer – Institute Esthederm Adaptasun Body Milk. I love this stuff. Twice now I’ve been abroad, used this liberally and not burnt once. The science behind it is a bit of confuzzling and it doesn’t operate in the standard SPF way, but for me anyway, it does what is says on the tin. And it smells incredible. Holidays in a bottle; a pricey pick but one big bottle easily has me sorted for 10 days away.
The Facial SPF That Tack-Free – Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily Moisturiser SPF 50. There are a fair few SPF’s now that have joined my crew of shine-free, non-gloopy, nice feeling formulas – post coming soon – but I will always have a tube of this on my skincare shelf. Light, moisturising but not overly so, it does the job of an SPF while feeling like it’s not even there. Lob it on, however thick you like and you still won’t feel it. Promise.
