Whenever I mention the word ‘Clarisonic‘, one oft-asked beauty conundrum gets thrown up – ‘Should I buy the Clarisonic?’. And I get it, it’s a toughie. They’re pricey but some people swear by them, others hate them – they’re the definition of a marmite product and at almost £100, it’s a risky investment to make. So lets try and make the purchase pondering process a little easier and break it down into a pros and cons list…
Pros:Â The main pull of this is that it’s an easy way to incorporate some exfoliating action into your routine. I also find it to swirl off every last scrap of makeup and when paired up with an oil once a week it gives a nice deep clean. There are a tonne of other claims too, but they’re always difficult to measure and easy to get swept away with so lets stick to the basics.
Cons: It’s so pricey, massively risky as to whether you’ll get on with the product and with no ‘try before you buy’ scheme you could end up with a rather large hunk of plastic gathering dust in your bathroom cabinet. A little tip if you have housemates who also want to purchase it – go halfsies on the Clarisonic then buy your own heads. Sharing is caring people.
My advice? Exhaust all other routes of deep cleansing/exfoliation first: give a balm cleanser like the good ol’ Emma Hardie a whirl and remove with a muslin cloth, even just introducing a flannel to remove your cream or lotion cleanser makes all the difference, exfoliation-wise look to chemical formulas like Alpha H Liquid Gold, or something bottled up as a toner with skin scrubbing abilities like Pixi’s Glow Tonic. If you’re still not satisfied then it’s something to ponder.
I got mine almost two years ago and loved it for the first 12 months, but then lost interest. I’ve since dusted it off, stuck on a fresh head and use it in the evenings in conjunction with a lotion cleanser and have rediscovered my deep feelings for it. Smooth and clear-ish skin is mine (when paired with a shedload of water, good clean food and a sprinkling of exercise). I have the original Mia model, which now retails for £99 from Space NK. Still undecided? You could always just put it on your Christmas list, leave very heavy hints and hope that someone takes the bait. Thanks Mark.
