A Postcard from Paris

Everything is prettier in Paris, fact. The buildings, the food, the people, their shoes. My stay in the city of love may have been a short one but I still managed to squeeze in many a Paris cliché and leave full to the brim with macaroons. The main reason for my venture overseas was to see what’s new in the world of Clarins this year, hint: it’s a good’un. But Lily, Jen and I managed a little expidition across the city to visit a few other makeup Mecca’s and some foodie bits in between. Here’s a ‘post’-card of what we got up to…

First-up, what’s coming from Clarins? Well, they’re dipping their bases into the BB pool for the first time and staying true to the Asian BB philosophy, they’ve created a skincare heavy formula – BB Skin Perfecting Cream – available in three shades from May. I’ve got a tube to test so I’ll keep you updated on that one. You ready for the best bit? Drumroll please; three new shades of the Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors, you know like my favourite glosses in the realm of beauty, will be unveiled on counters come May time. Sticking to the original subtle-gloss, no stick formula there’s a rosy hued pink, a nude peach and a brown-tinged shade coming our way and I’ve already added their new take on peach to my shopping list.

We made our bed at Hôtel Costes on Rue Saint-Honoré; a moody and dark sort of place filled with model-types and handsome men to open doors, with cloud-like beds and their own branded candles that burnt in the hallways. Top marks for the restaurant housed there too; easily the best melt-in-your-mouth fillet steak that’s ever passed my lips. Another foodie haven we visited was Angelina’s on Rue de Rivoli – I polished off their salted butter caramel macaroons in one clean sweep. For a cheese party feast check out the food hall at Le Marché Saint Germain on Rue Lobineau, we made friends with the sellers who feed us up with jambon and fromage samples. Beauty-wise we trekked over to Sephora on Champs-Élysées - standard – and then tested our map reading skills by searching out City Pharma on Rue du Four. Think Superdrug, but chicer – and filled to the rafters with Bioderma. A few new additions to the skincare stash may have occurred.

Good bites, beauty bits and the company of fellow bloggers; all in all a wicked whirlwind 24 hours spent in Paris. Now to work off my pâtisserie pouch…
