I have a piece of shocking news to share with you today. I haven’t stepped foot in a Whistles for over a month. I know, I know. Though I did pick up a few Whistles bits through the medium of ASOS a few weeks ago so I guess that kind of disproves my statement. In the absence of my trips there I’ve been mixing it up a bit and after being a bit early to meet someone by Oxford Street I ended up back in & Other Stories. Because there’s only one location in the UK, I always forget it’s there and I can’t say I’m particularly fond of shopping in the stores lining Oxford Street because they’re always so darn busy, but catch ’em out of commuting hours and they’re not too horrendous. No need to sharpen your elbows at 10.30am thankfully. Right now & Other Stories are bringing it; springwear that’s a little bit different, that’s mostly monochrome (score!) and with a price tag that’s somewhere in between highstreet and Whistles. Let’s just say I entered the fitting room with way more items than you’re allowed to take in and stepped out of the store with a rather heavy shopping bag. I purchased, I posed; so here’s a little inspiration if you fancy having a Sunday stroll down the shops…
The first thing I picked up was a top that Mark liked to refer to as my ‘Austin Powers Top’ and I’ve got to give him this one. It’s a little bit ’60’s – the flared 3/4 length arms kind of give it away, but I really like the light detailing on the sleeves, the high neck and the button down back. I don’t own anything like this Ruffled Collar Blouse and I’m not sure I ever have. Something a bit different for me and I quite like doing little peace signs whenever I wear it – it makes Mark chuckle.
I’ve been in the market for a white blazer recently. Something that’s a little lighter for days when I don’t fancy a full-on winter wool coat or my leather jacket (been there, done that, sweated it out on the tube). This Relaxed Fit Blazer seemed to fit the bill and is a slightly sloucher fit of jacket than I’ve had before, but it’s smart enough to formal-up a pair of jeans. I always feel a bit naughty whenever I buy a jacket that’s white as my Mum adamantly forbid them when I was a child because I was so accident prone with spillages. I look forward to her eye roll when she sees this. Such a rebel, eh?
A black T-Shirt Dress is hardly the most groundbreaking of purchases, but it’s not something I have in my current wardrobe. All my dresses are quite ‘dress-y‘ and I thought it would be nice to have something where I had to bare my legs but in a more casual way. I reckon I’ll be cracking this out loads with my ASH Boots in the summer (because they are basically surgically attached to my feet all year round). The final thing I picked up was this Ladder Laced Silk Top which fell completely into my T-shirt and jeans comfort zone, but was a little different to my usual blouses. The lace panels are a bit risqué and despite wearing a nude bra underneath I do check about 10 times a minute whether there’s nipple or belly button poking through somewhere, but I don’t think I’ve flashed anything inappropriate just yet. And on that note…
